Re: How far do you live from the hospital you're delivering at??
I live in Nassau county and delivered at Columbia - I went into labor in the middle of the night so there was no traffic and at 245 we got there in about 40-45 mins - with traffic it was going to be much longer - as much as 2 hrs. I spoke with my Dr before about the distance and he told me to call and come in when my contractions were 7 mins apart rather than calling at 5 mins. He also said most 1st babies labor is several hours so he wasn't concerned with my ability to make it to the hospital in time.
As it turned out my contractions went from 15-30 mins apart to suddenly - 2 mins, 3 mins, 2 mins, 5 mins back to 2. I had no problems making it to the hospital - and after all that I had a csection b.c DD failed to decend.

10 miles, but the BQE is what I take to get there and that highway is a disaster.

We are a good 35 minutes away and everyone is telling me we are crazy for not switching to a closer hospital. I wanted to stay with my doctor I have seen since way back when and she delivers at Winthrop. I don't think 35 minutes is THAT far!!!
I was at least 45 minutes from the hospital I delivered at (Winthrop) and there were no problems with me getting there in time for my delivery. I even asked my doctor at the beginning of the pregnancy if he thought we were too far, and he let me know that the first time, labor is usually 10-15 hours, so it's not a problem.

Re: How far do you live from the hospital you're delivering at??
I delivered at Stony Brook, which is about 2 miles from my house...maybe 5 minutes, depending on how I catch the lights. It was real convienent for me since she had to stay in NICU for 5 days after I came home
