Anyone receive details from their employer? I did but didn't review it in depth yet.

From what I grasp.. We used to have plan options but now it's just 1 plan. No premium increase. If your spouse has access to health care at their employer but want to be under ours, there's a fee.

Curious to hear others.

How has the Affordable HC Act impacted your company's insurance offerings?

Our rates went up maybe $100. That's about it.

How has the Affordable HC Act impacted your company's insurance offerings?

Not sure. My health insurance has steadily gone up 20% every year in the past 3 years and DH insurance was just changed so that it would have cost us over $15-17k a year. Im kind of scared to see what will come this year. I haven't gotten a raise in years and if this keeps up, I will literally be working just to pay our insurance. Chat Icon

I keep asking but nothing so far. All I know is that my current plan will no longer exist as of 1/1/14 and I have to wait and see what plan is offered before I can go to the marketplace.

Re: How has the Affordable HC Act impacted your company's insurance offerings?

I don't offer myself health insurace- I am self employeed

I have a plan for people who pre-existing conditions that ends on 12/31/2013

I am dying to get on the exchange to shop- and I am also getting solications in the mail from health insurance companies

competiton is good in my opinion- let them be our mercy not the other way around

I also think it's time to not have people rely on their employer for something as important as health coverage unless you are in a field that you work at the same place for 20 year- teacher, cop, FDNY- the idea really doesn't work - people get stuck paying COBRA or going with out when they change jobs....the system doesn't work in todays world

Can I even if my employer offers insurance? I definitely plan on researching more before I have to enroll for 2014 because somethings gotta give!

Same here. They sent out a memo with an outline of the new option, but I'm happy with my plan.

Ours changed drastically. We were very lucky and paid nothing...nothing out of pocket, no co-pays no prescription costs. Now the coverage is awful.

Slight increase but that's nothing new I work for an insurance company and they have the worst benefits. We have the option of going with their plan or going through an exchange. I have to read everything. I'm currently under Dh and nothing has been released yet.

Re: How has the Affordable HC Act impacted your company's insurance offerings?

We lost our PPO plan. We only have high deductible HSA now. I feel depressed over this, the deductible is many thousands of dollars. I'm on DH insurance, and thinking they will push me off , if not this year next year. It's just really disheartening, I pray none of us need surgery or get sick

I think next year is when companies will start dropping people.

How has the Affordable HC Act impacted your company's insurance offerings?

Increases or changes in plans aren't due to the health care act - that would happen regardless. No changes for me but I would expect the only people impacted are those that work for small businesses that can now purchase on the exchange or if an employer completely drops coverage and employees have to go to the exchange

Well, they COULD be an indirect result of the ACA because now companies are forced to cover pre-existing conditions and dependents up to age 26...so the cost of this has to be passed on to someone...business will most likely have to pay more for the insurance they offer their employees, so that's why they are now raising prices or dropping plans/dependents altogether.

They added a 3rd plan option in addition to the two we already have and as far as premiums to the employee we're looking at maybe a 3% increase, no more.

I think the people who are going to be most impacted by any of this will be people working for smaller employers/companies who don't get the discounts from insurance carriers that the larger companies do.

Per existing coverage starts jan 1....hasn't impacted costs yet. And covering dependents was effective a couple of years ago. The problem is the cost of healthcare in general. Regardless of ACA your health insurance will continue to go up until healthcare costs get under control. It has more to do with overutilization, payment incentives, technology etc than anything else.

Of course it is! Work for health insurance co , we know the expense is much higher now for the company. Pre exist condition, covering dependents for 26 years , etc. Companies are going to charge higher premiums, higher deductibles, drop coverage, drop spouses to save money and make share holders happy. Layoffs and pushing people part time has already been happening. We knew this a long time ago, it's just hard to swallow w everything else draining our wallet Chat Icon in future, most people in the private sector will see these changes. insurance co are reacting first because it's obvious what will happen financially, other sectors will see in the coming year or sooner.

My point is cost is going up regardless to blame ACA for insurance costs increasing isn't accurate - health care costs are increasing anyway and would continue to do so. And because the cost of healthcare is so expensive and out of control companies will continue to shift costs to employees and make changes to coverage to financially benefit themselves. This has been happening for years.

You're right... Covering dependents to 26 started back in 2010.

As long as I have been in HR and involved in negotiating coverage and rates with carriers the cost has always gone up. How much is always the question.

Sometimes it is beneficial to the employee to be on a separate plan from their spouse, DH and I each have our own coverage. Our coverages are very similar and with him on an employee only plan and me on an employee plus child plan we are saving about $1500/year after taxes. If we were on a Family plan that wouldn't be the case. I know it isn't a ton of money and this isn't the case for everyone but I always suggest people look into it during Open Enrollment.
