How long before you eat do you take the turkey out?

I know you should let the turkey rest for 30 minutes or so, but if I took it out 1 hr before dinner, is it too long? Most of my sides are going to take about 45 minutes in the oven.

My plan was to have guest arrive around 2pm which is when I would have the turkey come out. Pop the sides in. When they are done, start first course of soup. Does this timing sound right?

Usually turkey I have had is at room temp. Maybe a little warm, but never shortly right out of the oven. Heat up the gravy before you serve and that warms it up. I think it can sit for a while before serving.
I mostly eat the sides anyway and take a small piece of turkey. Half the time I don't eat it.

Mine usually rests for at least an hour. On food network, they were recommending at least an hour, up to 2, to let the turkey rest before carving (so juices don't run out and it doesn't get dry).

I think that's ideal timing... You can heat up/bake side dishes after turkey comes out. I agree it doesn't need to be hot, just serve it with hot gravy. I usually drizzle some warm gravy over the platter sliced turkey before bringing it to the table, which warns it up and ensures the neat isn't dried out.

i carve it as soon as its done. ill try to be patient and let it rest for 30 min or so tomorrow! who knew?!

We let it rest for 30 minutes and then carve it.

At least 1/2 hour before carving.
