How long did it take for you to meet the neighbors?

We are living on a residential block...we live in a 2 family house and still have not met anyone yet...its mostly families though.

The guy who lives in the other part of the house is weird...we have come face to face with him and he just looks the other way.

We've been here just over 2 yrs and we have yet to meet some of the neighbors

Some were more friendly then others with coming over to welcome us. I am sure to visit new neighbors now that move in and say hi since I know how crappy it was to be ignored by some

we live in a complex so def not the same environment as a neighborhood. all the people we've met seem really nice. but mostly, everyone keeps to themselves... which is FINE by us!

I guess since we are renting people don't want to talk to us...its so weird the houses on the block are like on top of each other...and no one says one word to us!

We met just about everyone around us within a month. One neighbor came over with flowers for us to welcome us the others stopped by while we were outside working. I think the fact that it was summer helped a lot. The people here are always outside with their kids, dogs, lawns, etc and there is plenty of opportunity to talk.

We've been here a year. I met one neighbor back in October, only because I happen to be outside and he was outside.

We just met our other neighbors about a month ago, the wife came over to say hello again, only because we were outside.

I agree about being outside....that's how I met the ones who did come over.

My next door neighbor is renting and we're actually good friends now, but they told us that when they moved in, no one came over to say hi (except for me!), so they figured it was because they were renting.

neighbors? what neighbors!! it's like they dont' even exist, it's so quiet by me, that's a good and a bad thing i guess. our neighbors both have huge exteneded families living with them so i guess there is no need for neighbors for them. and of course there is a crazy lady across the street, doesn't everyone have one of those on their block?

I still don't know all of them and we have had block parties!! I will wave to everyone though. I'm not the type to want to get too friendly with my neighbors though. Some of my neighbors are just too nosy and that's not me.

We really have the sweetest neighbors. When we got married they threw us a little get together and gave us really thoughtful gifts. None of them are our age but they are all very good people. We got very lucky.

Its like I want to meet them BUT I don't want to...because we probably won't be here for too long hopefully we can buy a house next year or something and I don't want them in our business..but I am sure they know a lot since everyone can hear everything around here

As we were moving in the neighbors were waving and welcoming us to the neighborhood.
Then another a/k/a Crazy Lady caused all kinds of trouble, where I in turn met all the rest of the awesome neighbors. It's amazing how rude and loud she was...then it was followed by all the other neighbors meeting us and just lovin' us up!

We live in a GREAT neighborhood...one I hope to stay in forever!


Now, same town different street...different story. We met and were close to only one. The others were a complete nightmare.
Same STREET...next BLOCK down...AWESOME neighbors...probably the BEST EVER!
It's amazing what one block can do....

One of our next door neighbors was there for our walkthrough, she was helping the previous owner to finish packing (yes she was still packing at the walkthrough). The other side we met within the first few days. We met the two houses across the street within the first month and met everyone else when we had a garage sale. We don't really talk to anyone, just wave hi. They are all older people or their kids and grandchildren.

We only know the people right next door to us. They are a retired couple and talk to us pretty often. But thats all.

We've been in our house for 2 years, and we've met the people on 1 side of us- and the people on the other side of us are just plain weird, so we havent met them yet....actually, I lied- we havent been formally introduced to them, we just had to say something to the wife when her daughter was pulling out all of our plants.

The people on both sides of us actual talked to my ILs when we were moving in and not to us...ODD...maybe because they are older and thought they were moving in

I know all the neighbors around us...and to the left of us except one house. A lot of them came by when we first moved in, or sent us cards....My neighbors on my right and left are sooo nice. One of them is the guy that sold me our house

I met my immediate neighbors within the first week of living here. As of this past week I have met someone in every house but 4 houses that lives within 4 blocks of me!

I think I can live here for 20 years and never meet some of the people on my block. When I was growing up we knew everyone on the block and many many for blocks around. Of course my Mother was a more outgoing person than I am but I dont think thats the only factor. I do know all the neighbors whose homes I can see. Im friendly with a hello or a wave with one family, the other a bit of chatting, our immediate next door neighbors a little more but thats about it. I dont even know what the people who live 2 doors down look like. No one ever showed up with a welcome basket when we moved in...but then Im not that type either.

Our house is situated so we don't have many direct neighbors but all the ones we can see we met in the first week or two. We don't hang out with them or anything but we are friendly.
I was elected to our homeowners association board of directors right after moving in & I'm in charge of the welcoming commitee. So get to go to any new homeowners(800 homes) & say hello! Thats one way to meet people. Also because of the lake & private beaches you meet people all the time. I like that sense of community.

We will be in our house 1 year on Friday & still have yet to meet all our neighbors! We got to meet a lot this past weekend at a neighbor's party, but other then that, I think a lot of people do keep to themselves. Most on our block work & on the weekends are in the backyard in the pools!!!
