Re: How long did it take for you to meet the neighbors?
We've been in our new place for about 7 months and have gotten fairly friendly with quite a few of our neighbors - I think they talk to my husband more than they talk to me because he's outside in the front yard more. I think that's the key - yard work!
Although the place where we used to live was no where near as friendly, so I think it sometimes just depends on the neighborhood.

within a month or two the surrounding ones came to say hello. About 9 months later on Halloween, everyone with kids came and introduced themselves.

Re: How long did it take for you to meet the neighbors?
We live on a short block of about 6 houses. Our next door neighbors on one side came over with a bottle of wine and toys for our kitties the week after we moved in. We really liked them, but they have since moved. The new neighbor is okay - a widow in her 60's who I brought a welcome package to, but our paths don't cross much.
The other side is a rental and we never see the 2 couples that live there. Oh, except for when one girl walks around their apartment completely naked with all the blinds open for everyone sitting on our deck to see
The three houses across the street are all older couples. I haven't officially met them, but we always wave and say "hi". My DH always ends up talking with the neighbors when he's working in the yard, which is every day! They must think I'm very anti-social, but I'm just not around as much as he is.

We met most of ours in the first couple weeks - and a few came over with baked goods. I love my neighborhood!

Re: How long did it take for you to meet the neighbors?
The day of the closing we met most of our neighbors. They all came over to say hello. One couple brought us flowers.

Re: How long did it take for you to meet the neighbors?
We moved in on a Wed. night (right after the closing! ) and met the next door neighbors that Saturday (RIP Tom ) after they came over to welcome us. That same weekend 2 other neighbors stopped by to welcome us and the following week the HOA came by to welcome us as well. We weren't there a month when the neighbors accross the street came over to welcome us. We live on a cul de sac in a subdivision and everyone is REALLY friendly...we even got home baked cookies from one neighbor and Atlanta Braves tix from another!
In NY...hmm, NEVER!

Re: How long did it take for you to meet the neighbors?
We have met almost all of them within a month of moving in (we live in a cul-de-sac) so there aren't too many houses. We get along the best with the neighbors across the street though.

Re: How long did it take for you to meet the neighbors?
We havent moved into our house yet, but we stop by now and then. One neighbor met us almost right after we closed. He was very sweet, came over and introduced himself and talks to us whenever we see him around.
Our other next door neighbor has just waved a couple of times, they dont seem as friendly.

We met just about everyone around us within a month. One neighbor came over with flowers for us to welcome us the others stopped by while we were outside working. I think the fact that it was summer helped a lot. The people here are always outside with their kids, dogs, lawns, etc and there is plenty of opportunity to talk. that's because you don't live in NY!
i dont live in nyk and my neigbors are not friendly
ive had conversations with 4 people on my block
one weirdo who came to my door asking me if i stole his toolbelt out of his truck (yea sure! it was me! ya got me)
one old lady who snoops around my house
one friendly guy across the street who says hi but his wife never says anything to us
one friendly guy walking his dog when i was outside planting flowers
otherwise, no one has said anything. however they all seem to be friendly with each other.
i guess they dont like us

Re: How long did it take for you to meet the neighbors?
We became fast friends with our next door neighbors right after they moved in! they are so great, we lucked out with them....When i was taking the doggie for a walk the other day i met the newest neighbors who moved just down the street two weeks ago, they seemed very nice too...and everyone else usually will say hi when we walk by....i've only been here a few days, lol...its a little weird b/c i judst moved from NY and i'm used to no one saying hi or even looking my way, so this was a nice change.

Re: How long did it take for you to meet the neighbors?
We still haven't met all of them and we've been here almost a year.
The couple across the street is old and biter. They were very friendly with the people we bought the house from so I think they are mad at us for buying the house
Im sure it doesn't help that my DH had a fight with the old homeowner when we moved in and was going to sue them for lying to us about a leak in one of the rooms that they knew about.
Our block party is next weekend. I know they will be here I just can't wait

Re: How long did it take for you to meet the neighbors?
The ones to the right of us we stopped by after a couple of months and introduced ourselves. 5 months later I meet the people behind us who's backyard goes into our frontyard (weird layout i know) by asking them to please not assemble the enourmous playset across from my kitchen table. They have a whole yard dammit. The people next to us I met while working out side 7 months living here. I wave to the guy on the corner but he still ignores me.

Re: How long did it take for you to meet the neighbors?
We knew our surrounding neighbors b/c we rented fromt he house right next door to us for 6 years. However, and something I found really odd, once we bought they were suddenly interested in our names Prior to contributing to the community, they were fine with small chit chat or waves from the driveway...
The one neighbor on the other side of us introduced herself to me within the first week of us officially living there.
I'm hoping more young couples move in...right now there are a lot of people who have lived in their house since birth (our triangle of neighbors all bought their parent's house's so they're in their early 50s). Lovely people - even the tard who walks around half naked - but just not our age

Re: How long did it take for you to meet the neighbors?
about 5 secs. Our block is one of those where everyone knows everyone. Some people even left us congrats on the new house cards when we moved in. Personally I'm not that social but they're all very nice people. Some houses are for sale on the block and I'm hoping maybe some young couples will move in, since the block is predominately older people.

Re: How long did it take for you to meet the neighbors?
We're in a co-op now. I'm terrible - I don't talk to anyone. DH moved in two years after I had the place, and knows pretty much everyone. Guess I'm the 5th floor bit*ch - oh well!

Re: How long did it take for you to meet the neighbors?
We have been there a month and half and met our next door neighbors and the ones across and behind us. Our next door neighbor runs the yearly block party in Sept so I guess we will meet everyone else then. Our next door neighbor also prints an emergency guide for all the neighbors with phone numbers so you can contact anyone you need. Its a really nice block.
Plus there are three other couples expecting but I am the only one having a girl so no best girlfriend for my daughter

Re: How long did it take for you to meet the neighbors?
I live on a small street with only 4 homes. We moved in June 2003.
The neighbors to the left only said "hi" to us once and never ever said anything else. The neighbors on the right came right up and introduced themselves. The house at the end of the block, I didn't see until the first snowstorm when we helped her shovel her driveway and walkway (single mom).
