How long did you swaddle your baby?

Chat Icon loved being swaddled in the hospital. So we when took her home we did it with the swaddle blanket and it lasted for 2 nights. By the 3rd night she was breaking free...wanted her hands out.

Is this normal and is it ok not to swaddle them?

Instead I tried the sleep sacks and she seems much more happy having her hands free!

My advice, keep with the sleep sack!! If she's breaking out of the swaddle already, and is content in the sleep sack, stick with it!! DD is 3 1/2 months and I'm having SUCH problems trying to transition from the swaddle to the sleep sack!! If she's happy, let her be Chat Icon

I swaddle DD with her hands out but there is no set rule of swaddling. If she likes the sleepsacks better then go for it! DD hates them...she sleeps with the swaddling but also falls asleep fine w/o it.

Yea, I was shocked she was breaking out of it so fast. Especially since in the hospital she LOVED to be saddled (we were there 4 nights).

But after the 2 nights home she didnt want to know about it. I havent tried it again since. Maybe I should.

Do you think she is too young for the sleep sack?

Does it look like she can slip in/out of it? I *think* there is a weight minimum for the sleep sack. Check the packaging if you still have it.

I have 4 of them, but only 1 of them she fits the weight requirment at this point. It is a gerber one and I cant find it anywhere anymore and I only have 1Chat Icon

The halo ones are for 10lbs and up so they are too big.

I stopped swaddling DD when got home from the hospital because I thought she didn't like it but I totally regret doing it! Chat Icon I say keep with it if you can, I think DD would benefit from being swaddled because she will only sleep in "tight" spaces (swing, bouncy, car seat) and I'm having a hard time going back to it with her.

DD is 5 months and I still swaddle her with the Swaddle Me. She gets swaddled with her arms out.

Re: How long did you swaddle your baby?

My DC are 6 months are are still swaddled for naps. DS sleeps in the sleep sack at night because he is rolling over to sleep on his belliy. DD we are trying to transition out of the swaddle. Sometimes she will sleep with one arm out, sometimes she will be completely swaddled.

I think most babies have a love/hate relationship with the swaddle. You think they hate it because they look like they are struggling to get out and maybe breaking out but at the same time they sleep so much better with it.

Is your baby sleeping well without the swaddle? Or does she startle herself awake?

dd was swaddled for one day once we came home from the hospital...she would bust out of it immediately and we took that as a sign that she did not want / need to be swaddled Chat Icon

Re: How long did you swaddle your baby?

I used the Swaddle me until 3 months, strictly for bedtime.
During naps she was developing her own sleep position, so I decided to stop using it.

Re: How long did you swaddle your baby?

DD is 2 months old and I swaddle her with the Miracle Blanket. When we first brought her home we used a receiving blanket like they did in the hospital but she too broke her arms out of it all the time. But she would still have the arm movements that would wake her up so I tried the Miracle Blanket b/c I knew from DD#1 that it really worked to keep the arms at their sides and it is almost impossible to break out of. Well, it worked. She now sleeps peacefully with her arms in and she doesn't have all the herky-jerkey movements. I've never used the Swaddle Me but I *think* people who've used that and the Miracle Blanket say that the Miracle Blanket does a better job for babies who can break free from the swaddle.

We swaddled Abby until she was 4 months old. Then we quit cold turkey. She was fine in a sleep sack until it got too warm. Now she sleeps in a onesie.

Re: How long did you swaddle your baby?

DD breaks free from her swaddle, so we make it tighter. And she likes it tighter. We use the Swaddle Me.
