How long did you wait to tell immediate family?

I'll be 6 weeks tomorrow and my first appointment isn't for another 2 weeks. My family is going through a lot right now and I would love to give them some good news. I just feel uneasy telling before we see the doctor. With my first, we told at 5 weeks bc we'd at least seen the sac and all that on an u/s. I'm so torn and I also think they're going to kill me if I tell them I'm 8 weeks! Did you wait for a heartbeat or tell right away?

Personally, I would definitely wait until you see/hear a heartbeat. I'm 8 weeks on Saturday, I saw the HB last week, but we're waiting to tell our parents until AFTER our 12 week Ultrascan. There are too many "ifs" before you see the HB, and even for a little bit after. My cousin announced about your time, then 2 weeks later when she went for her first apt, found out it was a blighted ovum (no baby). She had to go and tell EVERYONE that she lost the baby.

I told ONLY parents early like 6 weeks when we heard the heartbeat. For everyone else, grandma, uncle & Aunt's we waited till three months.

My father is home now until Sunday (he lives in Cali) and I've been debating telling him, but I just can't do it. I have to wait until after the Ultrascan.

Uggh, it's so hard! I think I may call the OB's office and plead my case to see if they'll see me earlier. I definitely wouldn't tell my extended family and everyone else until 12 weeks but I couldn't hide it from my parents and siblings for that long. I just don't want to give them good news and then have to take it back. At the same time, I'm the type that won't truly feel secure until I'm holding a healthy baby in my arms and I'm certainly not going to wait that long to tell!

They don't want to see you before that for a number of reasons, first, for the most part, it's really too early to see much of anything. It's much better to wait until the 8week apt, the ONLY reason that I got in so early was because I had a history of early losses 6 weeks and earlier.

Told my parents and sister around 12 weeks.
Everyone else we told around Christmas since we'd be seeing them- and that was like 15 weeks maybe.

I understand their reasoning, especially when a lot of people end up not as far along as they expect to be. It's just tough because with my first I was seeing an RE so I had weekly sonos in the beginning and saw the heartbeat at 6w 3 days. I'll be that far along on Monday so waiting another 2 weeks is killing me!

we told my mom at 8 weeks, my dad at 10 weeks (which is when he happened to come to NY - he lives OOS; if he lives in NY we would have waited until 12 weeks) and my in-laws at 12 weeks

this pregnancy, we told my mom right away (had a lot of issues and needed to go to the dr alot and she was taking care of DD so she knew something was up)...and everyone else we told at 12 weeks

Re: How long did you wait to tell immediate family?

I told my family and EXH's family the same day we had a dinner for Ex's B-day I even invited my BF. I was so excited and had tried for a long time. It was about a week after we found out. so I was maybe 5 weeks. You do what you feel is right.

Re: How long did you wait to tell immediate family?

with my first pregnancy we told my family at 4.5 weeks after one beta and my inlaws at 5.5 weeks after two. No sonos. I didnt want to tell that early but due to timing and various other circumstances we did, and everything was perfect.

I had a chemical trying for #2, so when I got pregnant again I was more cautious and waited for a heartbeat to tell immediate family. We told my parents that afternoon and miscarried the next day.

At the end of the day, when you tell wont change anything. Just tell the people you would want to know if things dont work out. I know that for me, at this point after 3 losses, I would want to wait until I was far enough along where I could tell happily and not with fear. Not sure if such a point exists though :(

How long did you wait to tell immediate family?

I told my sister within minutes of peeing on the stick. My parents a few hrs later when I got to work and DHs parents after our first blood test a few days later.

IMO those are the people I am going to lean on if there is a loss so why not tell them.

How long did you wait to tell immediate family?

DS- told family at 4-5 weeks and had a miscarriage scare shortly after. This one we told my sister the same day I peed on a stick (5 weeks) and the rest of the family at 8ish weeks after we had seen the heartbeat for the first time.

Re: How long did you wait to tell immediate family?

Told my sister minutes after telling DH - immediately after peeing on the stick. Would have told my SIL too, but she was away.

Assuming all goes well (I miscarried the last two times) - this time around I'll tell all parents at 8-9 weeks. Am currently 6 weeks exactly, and see my OB on Monday (early due to previous history).
