How long do you keep bottles before you discard them?

So I just received a bunch of new Born Free Bottles and nipples in the mail. I was reading the directions on the nipples and it says they recommend discarding nipples after 6-8 weeks. This makes sense for hygiene purposes and by 3 months you usually switch to the next level. So now I am wondering when do you actually discard the bottle itself. How long did you or will you keep your baby bottles before you discard them and buy new ones?

I use Born Free and saw that about the nipples. I sterilize after every use so I felt comfortable keeping them. (DD is 3 1/2 months). Plus, she is breastfed so we rarely use bottles anyway. Plus-they are Chat Icon I think with the bottles, since they are BPA free, you should be okay for a while if you take care of them.

IdkChat Icon I am using the same bottles with baby #3 that I used with baby #1! I use new nipples though.

I use Born Free also and plan on just getting new nipples every few months. They are way too expensive to replace the entire bottle.

Thanks for all you replies. I know the Born Free bottles are very expensive. It is much less expensive to just replace the nipples every few months.

I wouldn't discard the bottle just buy new nipples. I thought bottles can be kept and reused for future babies....especially for those bottles that costChat Icon

I tossed my bottles (Dr. Browns) after DD was done with them and plan on getting new bottles for DS.

As for nipples, I don't recall how often I replaced them, but I always felt like I was buying new ones. Chat Icon

I tossed DD Dr. Brown's when she moved onto the sippy at 1 year old. I never replaced the actual bottle during that year. I only changed the nipples when she was ready for the next level (which was close to the recommended ages - so about every 3 -4 months.) I will get DC #2 new bottles.

ETA: Question about born free bottles - do they only come in glass? or BPA free plastic. I'm thinking about them for DC #2.

The Born Free Bottles come in plastic. Now they also have these great training cups for 6 mos.+ and Drinking cups for 12 mos. +. I order them from the Born Free website because they always have good deals. I just ordered 8 bottles and I received a training cup and 4 extra nipples for free.

I actually love my glass born free bottles... but yeah they make plastic as well, in 5 and 9 ozs.
