Re: How long do you wait to get a Thank You...
Anyone can have an off-month and fail to acknowledge something. But someone who habitually fails to acknowledge gifts, IMO, is a type of person--one who takes friends and kindness for granted and can't be bothered. My response after enough of this treatment is that I can't bothered either. Too many good friends to go out of my way to make happy.

Re: How long do you wait to get a Thank You...
I think it is very rude not to send a thank you. I am still *patiently* waiting for a thank you from a couple for their engagement party last summer, her bridal shower in June, and their wedding in August. I am getting so POed about it that I am tempted not to even invite her to my baby shower.

Re: How long do you wait to get a Thank You...
I have been guilty of forgetting to send a thank you. Its never done intentionally and Im always thankful when I get the gift - sometimes life gets in the way- you get distracted etc. I try to always call or send a thank you when I receive a gift by mail. My family is nuts and is always doubting the usps and ups trucks and they wind up calling me anyway after few days if i havent called and that makes me feel akward so I call on those right away....

I guess I should just assume they got the gift and move on. But I will never forget
if you send a gift I think there is nothing wrong with expecting a thank you. I know people are busy and forget...but don't you want to make sure they recieved it?
I wouldn't assume they got the gift...My girlfriend never mentioned a bday gift I sent her...finally about 1 month later I mentioned it and it turns out I sent it to the wrong apt!
I would wait 1-2 months before mentioning it...if I sent a gift.

honestly I never give it a second thought. I don't assume that everyone that receives a gift will send a thak you card. Sorry. I think this is so rude if someone doesn't send a TY.
I never sent TY's for my baby shower DS was born early and The last thing I have time to do at this point is write TY's
To answer the original post, I don't wait for TY's , to tell you the truth I forget about it once the function is over

I am usually bad about getting out TY's and was so proud that for my shower I sent out all of my TY's within a week. After having the baby several people that were at my shower got a little something when the baby was born. I feel that it is a little excessive to send out another round of TY cards having just had the baby. I do not keep track of getting TY cards I feel all cards are a waste of money and I don't feel they are necessary

Re: How long do you wait to get a Thank You...
I'm bad
I always start writing them right away, but I never finish them in a timely fashion, lol.
I just sent out my wedding thank yous yesterday and my anniversary is this Monday
In my defense I hated my pictures and was so upset about them that I didn't pick out the picture for the TY until a few months ago.

Re: How long do you wait to get a Thank You...
Personally, I always send a thank you if the gift was either "sent" to me or if it was a formal party (shower, big bday)
If the person gives me the gift and I open it in their presence, I thank them right then and there.
I do think it is rude not to send them. I understand people are busy, but if the buyer wasnt too busy to remember your special day and take the time to go pick something out, the recipient shouldnt be too busy to jot them a note.

ETA: Oops, I didnt answer the original question. If it was a mailed gift, I'd wait about a month to question if they got it

I just assume they got it.. if I was ever really unsure I would probably bring it up at some point just to make sure.
