How long do you wait when you go to Dr. appt.?

Every time we have an appointment we wait over two hours to see the Dr. Is this normal? They dont have weekend appointments, so I end up waiting for over two hours after a long day at work and I feel terrible. I understand that sometimes they have to overbook because they get called to deliver, but is this the same for every OBGYN?

i wait a half hour tops.. but i also try and go in the mornings so i can avoid waiting so long

I always try to get one of the very first appointments of the day to avoid this. Athough we've been pretty lucky, I think my longest wait was an hour (between waiting room and then exam room time) and that was because my OB was running late after doing an emergency c-section at our hospital down the block.

2 hours is ridiculous. Are there any other doctors in the practice that you can see??

that is CRAZY, i never wait that long...usually 20 minutes at most.

I always try to get morning appts to avoid this and still end up waiting a 1/2 hour to 45 minutes.

On the days that I've had afternoon appts, I've waited up to 1 1/2 - 2 hours.

I dont want to take the time off to go to the Dr.'s because my leave is unpaid and need to use all my days, so I get the latest appt. possible 5:30, but dont get seen until 7:45. One time I had a 12pm appointment and didnt get seen until 2:30. there arent any other Dr.'s in the practice. I think I am going to change OBGYN because I do all that waiting and she spends five minutes with me. The only issue is that I am in my 29th week and I dont know if its too late to change.

I wait about an hour or so! It has been longer waits since I began my internals but prior to that it was about 15-20 min.

it depends - i usually try to schedule the sono first and i don't have to wait long for that, and i see my dr. second (i try and get her first appointment of the day so i don't wait more than a few minutes). but the last time i waited almost an hour for my dr who never showed up b/c she went to the hospital to deliver a baby and never told the staff - i ended up seeing another dr.

ETA: two hours is WAY too long to be waiting. after an hour i would be walking out and finding a new dr - but i am very picky about that kind of thing

at most 10-15 minutes.. they are vigilant about not having you sit around waiting.. if the doc isn't in, i still see the head nurse for weight, bloodpressure and ultra sound..and then the doctor calls me bak the next day..

At all my appointments I havent waited more than 15 minutes

There have been time I go in and get out even before my original appointment time

Up to 2 hours sometimes. My doc is the queen of overbooking. I know - its absolutely nuts, but Im 18 weeks already & I really dont want to switch doctors now.

I was like that in the beginning and then I caught on....I found that they were slower in the weekday AM appts that in the evening so I started scheduling my appts for first thing in the morning before work and made sure I was the first one there so I can be the first to see him....so now my total wait time is no more than 10 minutes!!!


I did that for the ultrascreen and am doing it for the Level II at the hospital...first appt in and out!!!

Depends how the doctor is running. I've waited as much as 1 1/2 hours and as little as 10 minutes. Hit or miss I guess!

I usually wait 20-40 minutes.

It's so annoying but I love my midwife so I deal. I try to make my appointments at night after work. But next Monday I have an appointment at 12:30. When I get there I have to tell the receptionist I can't wait - that I have to get back to work.

I've never waited more than 10 minutes so far -- been pretty lucky. Hopefully that lasts throughout my pregnancy.

Less than 5 or 10 minutes.

My doctor is really good about being on time. But he also expects you to be on time.

20-30 min TOPS!! Waiting that long is not acceptable, I would definately switch.

wow! that is a long time but I hear that often.

I love my doctors office. The most I wait is 10-15 min max. But usually I am taken right away.

I usually have AM appointments and only wait about 15 min. I had an unscheduled emergency appt at around lunch time, and then had to wait about a half hour.

I have no tolerance of physicians who are so overbooked they can't remotely keep to their schedule. I find it rude that they presume only their time is valuable. If it were me, I would have switched Dr's after the first 2 hour wait.

It depends on when I make my appt for, sometimes I can walk in and be next to see the Dr, other times I can go and wait 2 hours!! Most of the time its a wait.

When it is a specialty exam, (ie ultrascreen, level 2 or amnio) the wait is a little longer because they bring in a perinatologist to do the sonograms - they use pretty high-tech equipment. The practice I use dont NOT use technicians but ALWAYS medical doctors to do sonograms. Those exams are always done on Wednesdays and are different lengths for different people. On those days I can expect to wait MAYBE one half hour past the scheduled time. For a regular exam, I do not wait longer than 10 minutes.
