Re: How long does it take for you to adjust to a new job?
you have to give it some time... esp if it's in a new industry and area.
I would say at least a month or 2

Re: How long does it take for you to adjust to a new job?
give it a chance. I would definitely give it a few months before you throw in the towel. Frankly, if it's really not for you, your employer may decide it's time to say adios before you do so keep yourself "looking" ok with it until you have decided.

Re: How long does it take for you to adjust to a new job?
I say three months. You definitely have to give it time. Especially since your job is in an entirely different area. I left NYC 3.5 yrs ago to take a job that is 12 minutes away (old commute was 1.5hrs). It will work out, you will also enjoy the extra time that you used to spend on commuting. Best of luck.

3-4 months I think. I HATED my job when I first started it, and missed my miserable old job...Now I absolutely love it, and consider my office friends to be some of my best--I am SO glad I gave it a chance! Hang in there!

Re: How long does it take for you to adjust to a new job?
I started a new job 2 months ago. I had a REALLY s l o w ramp up period so I am now just getting a feel for it.
ETA - My old job was in NYC and this one is on LI, so that takes getting used to as well. I thought getting lunch out here would at least be cheaper - NOT!

I would say depends. For you - longer because you have location change, a new industry AND a new job to used to.

I know from the first 10 minutes if this is something I am going to love or hate. You do have to adjust but I know it is right from the get go.

Re: How long does it take for you to adjust to a new job?UPDATE ON BOTTOM! Please help!
Day 3 isnt much better. I really dont know if this job is for me. Its a diff field, which I dont really mind-but the actual JOB itself-seems very boring and everyone seems confused there. I sat down w/the person who hired me and asked her what my responsibilities/duties were=and they dont sound all that intresting at all.
I cant stick it out-bc I dotn want to lose unemployment. I really dont know what to do
I have had a headached there every day since I started.

Re: How long does it take for you to adjust to a new job?UPDATE ON BOTTOM! Please help!
Chick- I will be totally honest with you....
I usually know if a job is for me or not after about a week. No matter what, the 1st few days are going to be akward. Being the new girl has to be the worst feeling ever.
I quit a really good job last year for one I thought was a great opportunity for me. Turns out, it was the worst decision I ever made. I would have rather been hung upside down from my toenails for days. There was absolutey NOTHING about that job I liked. I hated the company, the people, the commute, the area, the work... EVERYTHING. I dont know how I did it, but I held on for a month & quit without having another job lined up. I was absolutely miserable there.
Trust your gut. Give it a fair shot & see what happens. You said that you dont HATE it, so thats a good start. I HATED that job. BUT, leaving that place led me to where I am today.I'm happy where I am & would never even consider leaving my company. (They would have to kick me out).
You know what you like, You know what you can handle & you know what your capable of doing. Just give it a fair shot & see where it goes from there.
Good luck & FM me !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: How long does it take for you to adjust to a new job?UPDATE ON BOTTOM! Please help!
I know it's hard. It S U C K S starting a new job. It's like the first day of school. You don't know anyone, you don't know where anything is, and you feel like a moron because you don't know what you are doing and you have to ask a million questions. I dread the thought of ever having to start a new job again. BUT you also have to give it time. When I first started my job- I cried every day. I'd go home and cry- I'd cry before work in the morning. It took me about a month until I felt better. By 2 months I felt like I had been there forever. At the time I wanted to quit - now I am glad I didn't. Because I love my job and thank GOD every day that I stuck it out.
You are never going to love it from day 1- even if it's your dream job. Adjustment takes time. Give it some more time and see!

thank u! but the thing is..its not the place itself. the people are nice, my aunt works here, so i know someone. i dotn mind askign questions-im not like that at all.
its not even the matter that i dont kow what im doing...its the fact of WHAT im going to be doing. i asked the supervisor n she asid it takes 6 months to get situated right.
i think just the job itself-not good.
i just havent felt like this before-starting a new job. its a totally diff feeling and i think its bc i know , in my gut that i wotn like what ill be doing.
i cant really give it time-bc i dotn want to lose my unemployment.

Re: How long does it take for you to adjust to a new job?UPDATE ON BOTTOM! Please help!
I think if you just don't think you'll like the actual work you need to get out of there.
If you're overwhelmed its another story. That's what you need to determine. Do you feel like you just can't get it done or is it the type of work that just doesnt appeal to you?
I know we talked before and you mentioned budgets, spreadsheets, etc. Sounds like a number-crunching type of job. If that's not your thing, then its not going to get any better. If you are concerned about losing unemployment, you may as well make it easier on everyone involved and leave before they've invested too much money/time in training you and before you waste too much time letting other available opportunities go while you're working there being miserable.
Just my 2 cents. Good luck, babes!

Thank you all!
But i decided to quit today, its not my thing, and i dont think it will be my thing, so why be miserable there?
I can still get my UE bc it was "temp" work, so it all works out..
I feel a huge weight has been lifted off my chest-all i did this week was have horrible headaches, stomach probls n cry LOL

Yes, the manager who I told was like what! She told me she was upset bc she liked me and I had a brain, lol. She asked if there was anything she could do to make me stay.
She felt bad...
