How long for a permit in the town of Islip?

We're adding a dormer to the upstairs on part of our house. No changes to the footprint, just more headroom in the upstairs.

Does anyone have any experience getting a similar type permit from the town of Islip? I'm wondering how long this might take.

We live in the Town of Islip and did work on our house last year. We added another floor. Our permit took a while but we needed to also get a permit from the DEC first before the town would issue ours. Also, if there is anything on your property that is not to code or needs a CO and doesn't have it, they may make you get those first before issuing a new permit (we had to move our shed and remove our deck). If all is in order, they are pretty quick with the permits.

Thanks for your reply. The sellers got an updated CO when we purchased six years ago so hopefully all is correct there. No deck or sheds so that should help. I'm hoping it goes quickly so we can get moving on the project before the weather turns.

As long as you don't need a variance, you should be fine. Variances take a long time.

I'm in the TOI, and I found out that they measure the height of the house from the street, not from ground level.... there is a slight slope (5' total) from the street to my house, so because of that, my house is "taller" than the 28' height maximum, even though it is less than 24' above the ground.
