How long is it okay to wait to tell your job?
Asking for a friend... Is there proper etiquette on how long you can wait before telling your job you're preggo? She'd like to wait as long as possible...

Same as Nell...I was WELL into my 2nd trimester.
I think for FMLA they want 60 days from EDD. So technically 7 months though if assume you'd be showing by then.

Whenever you're ready. And the FMLA 60 days thin is probably company specific bc my job doesn't want any paperwork until I give birth.

Re: How long is it okay to wait to tell your job?
I'd give them at least a month's notice just out of courtesy, but I don't think you're obligated to tell by a certain time, as long as you can get your paperwork for maternity leave in with enough notice that your job requires (for me, that was 2 weeks).
First pregnancy I told at 30/31 weeks (I carried super small so it wasn't obvious yet), second pregnancy about 23/24 weeks because I was starting to show sooner.

Re: How long is it okay to wait to tell your job?
Whenever you feel comfortable. With my first they found out earlier than I wanted to let them know, at 10 weeks, because I used to try and make my doctor appts during my lunch hour and I used to run over time... the second time around I made appts after work and I told them at 14 weeks.

Exactly. No "rule" whatsoever...if the friend isn't showing and there's no threats at work (depending what type of job she has) then it's her business until she needs to start to tell people due to maternity leave (which my company wants 60 days notice to start the paperwork.)

How long is it okay to wait to tell your job?
I manage, so I wanted to give plenty of time, I had a lot of cross training of staff to do, on top of all of our regular daily duties. I also was showing by about 15 weeks, and I'm fat, lol. I told the doctor I work for at 16 weeks, right before it was "facebook official". I also didn't want him finding out from someone else or a random fb search.

Re: How long is it okay to wait to tell your job?
I told my boss and direct reports at 6 weeks both times. Everyone knew we had fertility issues AND I was so sick i didn't want to be lying about why.
I am not good at lying and keeping secrets, especially about something so exciting. No regrets. We told everybody right away, but I realize I am much more relaxed about that than most people.

Re: How long is it okay to wait to tell your job?
Depends on the job but I wanted to wait until between three and four months -- but then my boss, at the time, wanted me to help him carry this really heavy table. And I was like 15 weeks along or so and I had to admit it. Because all I heard was my doc in my head going: DO NOT lift anything heavy, DO NOT play volleyball or basketball, DO NOT.... on and on.

DD1 I told around 20w, DD2 around 13w because I was showing early and this time I told around 16w I think. I just think you need to tell before you show - I wanted my bosses to find out from me and not from rumors flying around the office!

I'd personally tell before you're showing or at the 2nd trimester.

How long is it okay to wait to tell your job?
With #1 I told at 12 weeks. With #2 I told my immediate supervisor at 12 weeks but asked him to keep it quiet. I just told HR and the CEO yesterday at 17 weeks.

Re: How long is it okay to wait to tell your job?
I was kind of wondering this too. I'm waiting until 16wks. Don't know why I chose that number. lol. I guess just because I don't feel like telling them at the moment (I'm 14wks), but also don't want to wait too long and spring it on them. So 16wks will do for me

Re: How long is it okay to wait to tell your job?
With both pregnancies, I told after we received my amino results. I was 18 weeks when I announced. With my second, I was hiding my giant belly and people thought I was just getting fat. I also always carried a file or something when I'd leave my office (like when an actress is pregnant but the show hides it because they don't want the character to be pregnant lol ). After I told my then boss, I stopped hiding it with clothes the following day. It was very funny to watch people's reactions. One day I was "fat," the next I was very visibly pregnant.
