more details needed ... how is it just the "TOP" of her wedding dress?

maybe its just me, but I was not one of those brides who gave a hoot what pepole wore to my wedding.. in all honestly, NOONE steals away the bride's thunder... even if someone wore white, does it REALLY matter Chat Icon

(yes I know, I was the anti-bridezilla.. I just did not stress these thigns Chat Icon)

im with you flee

After reading a few responses, I thought I was the only one who wouldn't care! Good to know I'm not alone Chat Icon
One of my BM actually did this to her dress after her wedding. I think it is kind of cool actually (maybe not in white as I won't wear white to anything other than my own wedding, but who am I to judge other people Chat Icon Chat Icon ) as she will be able to wear at least part of her dress again. If she wasn't in my wedding, I probably would have been flattered if she wore part of her dress. Like Flee, I really didn't notice what anyone else wore to my wedding. I really was in my and DH's own little universe. A friend of ours actually apologized about her dress after the wedding. She didn't realize when she bought the dress how low cut it really was until someone else commented on it at the wedding. I was a little embarassed to tell her that I didn't even notice! All I said was, that she looked great Chat Icon

I would be mad if she just did it for spite.

Otherwise I wouldn't care what anybody wore. But if her intentions were to make you feel bad, then yes I would be angry.

I don't think I'd be mad, just confused. I mean, why wear your wedding dress top to someone elses wedding? If anyone can tell it's part of a wedding dress, they'd probably think she was a freak anyway.

I'm with Felicia, I really didn't care much what people wore to my wedding - there was one sort-of cousin of DH who wore a white dress - I think the only reason I really noticed was from posts on LIWeddings about how bad it is for someone to do it. Chat Icon

Good point... it seems this "Friend" was intentionally trying to p*ss you off.. that is another story entirely

Not to mention, just wearing the top of a wedding dress to ANYONE's wedding is kind of of a dumbazz move... and I think that the REST of your GUESTS would just think of her as a freak, so problem solved there Chat Icon

but in and of itself would not really trouble me, as the bride.. to be perfectly honest , I hardly noticed what ANY of my guests were wearing until I saw the video Chat Icon

This is what I'm saying... it's her intention in wearing the top that really makes the difference. It sounds like her main goal wasn't just to get more wear out of her gown...

Re: How mad would you be at a good friend is she.....

Thanks everyone for your great responses!! I have not spoke to this friend since the wedding...she has not called me and I have not called her...we had some misunderstandings prior to the wedding and I felt that she wore it out of spite, that is just the type of person she is and I took it as the "last straw"...Let me make a point that if this was done at her wedding she would of thrown the person out by their hair.

Every once in a while i feel the urge to call her but then I think of this stunt and all the bull prior and it makes my stomach turn.

It wouldn't bother me at all. A fancy white top with a black skirt is almost traditional formal wear. Good for her being able to wear it twice. Chat Icon

Doesn't sound like such a good friend if she is doing ANYTHING out of spite. That's just not how good friends act.

Not to mention to spite someone at their wedding is just plain b1thchy.

I'd ax the friendship not because of what she wore but why...which is entirely a different story.

Re: How mad would you be at a good friend is she.....

My best friend had a 2 piece and I tell her all the time she should wear the top with a plain ball gown skirt to a black tie wedding or function. It is so pretty and no one would know if she wore it with a different bottom even a nice pair of pants. Why not get use out of it if you can with out it being too over the top. If it bothers you then no she should not wear it, but maybe see how she wants to waer it and you may be surprised. I attached a pic of my friends although it does the dress no justice.

I completely agree with you.

Would it bother anyone if the friend wore a white blouse with a formal black skirt? Because that's what it sounds like to me... or least, that's how'd I'd see it. I doubt anyone would notice that it was the top of her wedding dress, unless the scoped her out when she got married.

Re: How mad would you be at a good friend is she.....

I don't think I would have cared it she just wore it, but I think I'd be ticked after she made a point of telling me she was wearing her dress.

Sounds like she is looking for a lot of attention and I think other guests would think she is an idiot.

I am another person who didn't care what others wore to my wedding. If you didn't show up wearing the same thing as me and hopefully you looked nice - I was happy.

What makes you think she wore the top of her wedding dress just to spite you?

YOU are the only bride at your wedding. Tell her to dye her wedding top black and she can wear it. What is she crazy? Her pijamas would be better then outdoing the bride.

Do you guys really think that there is an "outdoing the bride" option?

I wouldn't wear white to a wedding but really I wouldn't think anyone else wearing white would show up a bride. Is that really possible to do? The bride is the one gettting married in front of all of her friends and relatives. Anyone trying to "show up" a bride just winds up looking foolish.

No doubt if it was done for spite - I'd be angry. If it was just done because she's trying to figure out a clothes situation - I wouldn't be angry.
