How many actual gifts do you plan to buy for your children?
Eh, I really go by budget rather then the actual amount. We are buying DD a kitchen and some accessories, I do not want to spend more than $200- $250 on her (the kitchen is about $150)...

DS will be 19 months. To open with us on Christmas morning he is getting one "big" gift and a few smaller gifts- maybe 5 things to open in total, plus his stocking. DH and I are not going crazy, because between Christmas Eve at my in laws and Christmas Day with my family, as well as my two best friends buying him stuff, he will be opening dozens of gifts in a 2 day period.

My rule is: Jesus only got 3 gifts and no one is better than Jesus. So I will oly get my kids 3 things.
I this rule. So true.
I don't know yet but not going crazy. Too much stuff that ends up getting lost, not played with etc. I think one big then and maybe a few little things that she will like

Re: How many actual gifts do you plan to buy for your children?
I got them 4 gifts each. Then I had to get a bunch of little gifts bc we have 3 xmas parties where santa shows up and gives out a little gift to each kid.
I really wanted to just keep it to two each bc I know they will get so much from family, but i couldn't help myself. They are at such a great age (15 months) and are really starting to enjoy toys:) I am addicted to their look of wonder.

Re: How many actual gifts do you plan to buy for your children?
Last year I went overboard...........DD easily had 30 or more gifts. I go a little nuts at Xmas. This year I am trying to cut back a little, it was too overwhelming for her last year. So far I probably have at least 12-14 gifts for her though.

Not sure if we are going to buy anything because their bday is 12 days earlier unfortunately. They are going to be spoiled by family for both so I am sure they won't miss not getting anything from DH and I. For this year at least since they're only going to just have turned 2.

Re: How many actual gifts do you plan to buy for your children?
too many! i have to say this is the only time of year that they get a lot of stuff..they have summer birthdays and usually get outdoor toys. the rest of the year i buy them some books and never toys really.
CHristmas at my house growing up was big even when my parents had very little money. not crazy big but we got a lot. so i'd say i have about 10-12 things for each child (2 kids) not all of them are expensive though. i don't care-they are only little once and i LOVE being Santa Claus!

I LOVE giving my girls new things also. It is so much fun!! However, My girls will only be 15 months at x mas. I dont think we are going to get them much. They have so much. A few little things to open that morning. Just a few things for pictures. I could wrap my Tupperware... they would love that. (I wouldnt really do that, but they would love it!!)

So far I bought her about 6 things. I'm still deciding on her big gift. Aside from that, she's done, unless i happen to pick up a little toy or a good deal from now til then.

DD will only be 2 months so we will buy a few age appropriate toys. We will put money in her savings account or buy a savings bond for her. Since she's part jewish I though 8 little toys like teethers and rattles would be cute.

I don't know! I'm afraid to buy anything for fear that fam is going to go overboard! Dd is the first baby in my fam and its been a really long time since dh's fam had a baby in it... So I'm thinking were going to be overloaded... Not complaining :). I just don't even know where to begin!

Re: How many actual gifts do you plan to buy for your children?
ONE gift each.
Last year, we got DS a trike. He also got a tiny train set, a pirate ship and a shopping cart along with a few push-button-effect toys.
This year, I'm not sure. Maybe a tent for DS. DD doesn't need anything. Maybe a girly pull toy.
Family will get the kids a gift a piece and it comes out to LOTS of gifts.
I will likely donate the old toys (hopefully one per toy received).
I'm a minimalist & the toys end up in the living room, so I don't want the house looking like a gymboree.

Re: How many actual gifts do you plan to buy for your children?
We set a budget and work with that. I didn't get my older son anything big this year, so he's getting maybe 10 or 11 things (not counting his stocking). We don't do birthday parties for him yet (he's 3), so we like to give him a little more on Christmas.
We only got my little guy 1 small toy and 2 bath toys - less than $20 total. He's less than a year old & has all of his older brother's toys to play with. We're going to put $ into his bank account instead...

Re: How many actual gifts do you plan to buy for your children?
We don't plan for a specific number of gifts-we have an idea of the max we want to spend. Our 5 year old is the only one of the 3 who really gets it yet so she gets the bulk of the gifts. We will even it out as they get older.
We are just about done with the kids and we probably have 15 for DD1, 6 for DS, 4 for DD2 and then stocking stuffers.
We like to have 1 big gift each and then a bunch of smaller gifts.
I don't think my kids are better than Jesus though

I don't have a plan. I just buy what I think they will like. If could be 10, could be 20. I'm thrifty, shop sales, don't buy toys, etc. during the year, so I give them a lot for Christmas. i agree. I do not have a set number. So far I got dd one big gift. We will be getting her some other small items. She's only 19 months so I'm not sure how much of this she really understands so I'm not going too crazy.
same here except i have a limit. $100. That's it. I buy on sale, i use coupons, free shipping, etc etc so he ends up getting quite a lot. Plus some stuff we put in his stocking.

I have a huge pet peeve about spoiling children with gifts at Christmas, When I grew up I only got 1 gift and was so very grateful for it. I did not grow up in the United States so the culture where I grew up was completely different than here. My rule is: Jesus only got 3 gifts and no one is better than Jesus. So I will oly get my kids 3 things.

Re: How many actual gifts do you plan to buy for your children?
i'm trying to keep it down. so far we have a cars sticker book, a giant tub of toy soldiers (i can already feel the pain of stepping on the in the middle of the night), and DH just ordered 2 different melissa and doug puzzles on amazon today (they're 50% off!) i'm probably giving him one of the puzzles on december 6th (in poland the kids always got a small gift for st. nick's so we're continuing that tradition) i'm also planning on getting him a plush donald because he's been asking for one.
i got my godson a toy story sticker book, a melissa and doug stamp set, and will probably get him some clothes.

Re: How many actual gifts do you plan to buy for your children?
This year they are getting 14 gifts each. The priciest is their Christmas pj's from pottery barn, 40.00 each. then each child got a $30.00 bigger toy. It goes down from there. We spent a lot less $ this year then last.
Last year we went seriously overboard and like a PP said, they were just overwhelmed

Re: How many actual gifts do you plan to buy for your children?
While I don't completely "spoil" the boys on christmas, I have to say, its the one day of the year where I LOVE being able to give them a whole bunch of toys under the tree.
I'll tell you why. When I was growing up, we didn't have much. We had a home, food on the table, but I was the oldest of 6 kids. My mom was a SAHM and my dad worked construction. His christmas bonus always came 2 weeks before christmas and he and my mom had fun buying things for us. It wasn't like we had TONS of lavish presents, but it seriously was the happiest, nicest day of the year. 6 kids times at least 7 or 8 gifts each is a ton of presents under the tree. We would scream our heads off because we were so excited and my mom tells me now that her absolute fav memories of our childhood was christmas morning and how happy we were.
Like she says...we were such good kids. We didn't ask for much, didn't ever expect a lot. We just knew that Santa really must have seen how good we were all year and wanted us to have a wonderful day.
Now I know that amount of $$ or presents doesn't equal love or anything like that....but I tend to follow in her footsteps and I buy what I can, when its on sale and when I have the $$. I love seeing a tree full of presents, it just brings me back to childhood. And my kids are not spoiled throughout the year, however this one day is an exception!
