Re: How many children did your parents have?
I was the third girl, the first being 7 yrs older and the second being 5 yrs older than me. I loved my spot!! My oldest sister always was like my 2nd mother, and the middle one (although we had our spats growing up and yrs where we fought like crazy) was always like my closest friend. Now, they truly are my best friends...and the best part about it is that no matter what I have been through, both of them have been there and can always give me good advice as to how to handle anything!!

Re: How many children did your parents have?
3, all
18 months later ME
9 years later
My older sister and I were so close in age, that she wasn't really the "oldest". I tended to be more adventurous and outgoing so I did a lot of the "1st's" (including getting married and having a baby)
I'm the peacemaker of the family, and I have much better relationships with BOTH sisters then they have with each other.

Re: How many children did your parents have?
I'm an only. My parents divorced when I was a toddler & although they both remarried they didn't have any more kids. Being an only as a child was a wonderful life, I was the star. As an adult I wish I had a sister to share life with. Nobody really understands your parents like their children, so although my friends & husband listen to the family issues they don't REALLY understand, KWIM? I worry about caring for my parents as they age. I can't even put them in the same nursing home because they hate eachother
My son is technically an only as well, even though I always "planned' to have another child. My son & my stepdaughter are several years apart in age & they don't really have a true sibling bond. I worry that my son will wish he had siblings when he's married.

My parents had 4 kids, but the 3rd one was stillborn F/T. I'm the youngest. I hated it. Well, I think I just hated my family growing up!

How many children did your parents have? Where were you in the order? How many years apart (if more than one)? and Did you like your position (as in, if you were an only child did you like it?) Pro's and con's of amount
My parents had 3 girls (my poor father, right?! I have a girlfriend that is one of 5 girls... her father was my fathers hero!!)
I'm the oldest.
I'm 2 1/2 years older than the middle sister and 3 1/2 years older than the youngest.
Yes, I loved being the oldest. Esp. because my younger sisters were so much closer in age (Irish twin, 1 year apart) most of the negative attention (ie. them getting into trouble or fighting with each other) was focused on them. Also, I always had my own room. Also, I was an easy baby and very easy child and my sisters were the total opposite (very cligny and big cryers) so I loved being praised for being so good....
Pros to having 2 sisters: There was ALWAYS someone to play with and there was always someone on your side to gag up on the other sister with.
Cons to having 2 sister: You run the potential of being ganged up on. Someone ALWAYS has to sit in the middle in the car, the biitch seat!!
Here's a pic of me and my sisters at a wedding this past summer. I'm in the middle, the middle sister is to my right and the youngest is to my left. I love 'em!

Re: How many children did your parents have?
My parents were married 9 years before they decided to adopt my brother. It just wasn't happening and back then there weren't fertility treatments like today. 5 years later I came along biologically.
He always resented me and hated his biological mother for giving him up. Then he hated our parents for treating me different. They didn't, it was something that he never could deal with.
Talk about a family dynamic..

Re: How many children did your parents have?
I have a sister 3 years younger than me and thats all the children my mother had.
She remarried and I have stepsiblings: 1 girl 3 years older, a boy 1 year older and a girl 3 years younger, in fact only 8 days older than my full sister.
My dad remarried and had one boy, I am 19 years older than him.
My place in all this didnt really matter to me althought its a little tough being so much older than my brother.

Re: How many children did your parents have?
3 children- with 2 miscarriages.
I am the oldest- my brother is 3 years younger than me, and my sis is 9 years younger. I wish that my sis and I had been closer in age but one of the miscarriages was pretty bad so my mom waited to see if she even wanted a 3rd. I am so glad she did!

Re: How many children did your parents have?
2. I was the second. My sister and I are 20 months apart, and I wish I could have my two that close in age, as well, but financially, we just can't do it. My sister is my best friend and I wouldn't change it for the world. I think it worked well for my parents because we were almost always at the same stage in life together. We used to hate it, but at least we were both out of the phase of needing a babysitter at the same time, we were able to drive close in age and share a car, etc...

Re: How many children did your parents have?
3 Children, 2 girls 1 boy.
I am the oldest (36)
There are 6 years between my sister and me and 9 years between my brother and me
I didn't like the order growing up (because I always had to set a good example)
But now I enjoy being the oldest

Both my parents have me! I guess I was enough!
growing up I wanted a sibling- I asked every Christmas-for every birthday- it never happened, they got me a dog
I was fortunate to have MANY family members very close by-uncle and cousins around the corner- grandma about 5 minutes away- cousins that lived behind me- It was WONDERFUL growing up close to my cousins and my family and my parents always made sure I had close relationships with them as well as with friends- I always had friends over-
As an adult, there are def. times that I wish I had a sibling- especially since I see my DH with his two brothers-their relationship is remarkable-and it is beautiful to see- esp. since one of his brothers is only 10-it's really nice to see them interact-
There are pros and cons- and I know my parents thought about what was best for me-for them-as well as the life they wanted to be able to give me-

Where were you in the order? second and last
How many years apart? I have an older brother 2 1/2 years older than me
Did you like your position? Loved being the youngest and loved the amount of time between me and my brother. We were far enough away that we weren't super competitive, but played when we were younger. We both went to boarding school so we grew apart but are now pretty close. He is 31 and I am 28.
I always wanted a sister, but I know how hard that can be...So I am really glad my parents had my brother and me. I will aim for 2 kids, one of each sex as well! With the exact same time between--2 1/2 to 3 years.

Re: How many children did your parents have?
There are two of us. I am the oldest. There are 4 years between us. In many ways I was an only child. I think 4 years between siblings is too much. We were very different children so birth order didn't mean much in my house. My parents believed in individualized parenting.

Re: How many children did your parents have?
How many children did your parents have? 2 Me then my brother who passed away at age 24 from Hodgkins Lymphoma
Where were you in the order? 1st
How many years apart (if more than one)? 17 months
Did you like your position (as in, if you were an only child did you like it?) I was fine with it, we were pretty close in age so it didn't really matter.
Cons: At the time I thought my brother got away with everything! Now, I still miss him terribly and at times feel like an only child. I guess I am, I never know what to say when people ask me if I have siblings.

Re: How many children did your parents have?
My Mum & Dad tried for a few years to have children, but it didn't happen for them so when he was 3 days old they adopted my brother. Two years later when I was about a week old they adopted me. When I was 2 my Mum finally got pregnant and had my younger brother he was premature and only lived a few days.
I guess I was a bit spoiled, being the youngest & a girl, but my parents were very strict. My brother was always allowed to do more than me because "he's a boy" ???? That was my Dad - protective of his little girl I suppose!

Re: How many children did your parents have?
How many children did your parents have? 9
Where were you in the order? 6th
How many years apart? 16 months, 17 m, 14 m, 17 m, 15 m (me!), 3 yrs/7 m (mom needed a break after me ), 18m, 4 years/1 m
Did you like your position? Didn't like being considered one of the "babies" when the 5th born was always considered an "older" sib.
Pros and cons of amount. Cons: Three words: Hand. Me. Downs.
Pros: Always someone to play with!

Re: How many children did your parents have?
My parents had two girls
I am the youngest
We are 9 years apart
Con-I get along great with my sister but, I always wished I had a sibling closer in age while growing up. It was a little lonely!
Pro- I used to hang out with my sister and her friends, as I got to be a teenager. It made me alot more mature then alot of my friends.

Re: How many children did your parents have?
My parents had 2 kids I'm the oldest We are 2 1/2 years apart I liked being the oldest, but it was tough in some ways. My parents (who weren't strict) were far more lenient on my sister.
Pro: My sister and I are now extremely close. I got to do lots of things first.
Cons: My sister and I did not get along at all growing up- until I went away to college. My parents were more nervous with me than with my sister with things like driving and traveling.

Re: How many children did your parents have?
How many children did your parents have? five
Where were you in the order? fourth
How many years apart (if more than one)? then 12 months later then 21 months later then 9 years later ME then 5 years later
Pros: My parents were more lenient on my younger sister and I. My sister was born after me and we would play together Cons: My older brothers and sisters were stricter than my parents were. I have very little in common with my olders brothers and sisters. Different phases of life. Like i am planning a wedding and they are raising their children. I am still years behind. Though my younger sister and I are neck and neck with most of the things we do.

Three
I'm the youngest
2 years between each child
Yup, I loved it - I took advantage of my brothers breaking my parents in
Cons - when you have three, one always gets screwed up. But, the pros is that it's fun having siblings while you grow up.

Re: How many children did your parents have?
My parents had 2 children. I am the younger one by 10 1/2 years. My mom had been unable to conceive again, and about a year before I was born, they were offered a child for adoption, but had already decided that they were fine with only having one child at that point. They never thought they would conceive again, and then I came along.
I was raised somewhat as an only child, as I was 7 when my sister left for college.
Although I always wanted a sibling closer in age, I did like my position. I had the fun of having a big sister who played with me and taught me things, as well as the support of "mom #2", as I often called her.
Despite the age difference, my sister and I are VERY close, I and I couldn't imagine it any other way.
Pros: As the baby by far, I got a lot of attention and got away with a lot more than my sister ever did! She was always a role model for me, and able to give me good advice.
Cons: It would have been nice to have a sibling closer in age to play with.
