How many days of potty training before they started to "get it"?? would appreciate any feedback/help...
It has been half good/half bad which I expected....but I feel like we encountered a big set back ...he refuses to poop on the potty now, only pee. He was holding his poop all night and he ended up going this morning in the diaper (I put a diaper on at night).
I guess I am just looking for encouragement or words of wisdom..
-How long did it take you to train your child?? I don't want to give up, its only the start of day 4 and we've had a lot of success...but it is VERY frustrating at times and a part of me wants to go back to diapers..however I know that isn't smart...
TIA!!

It took us about 2 days before she "got it." THe first day was filled with accidents. She didnt seem to mind being wet when I left her like that for a bit. But by the 2nd day, she seemed to get the hang of it and only had a few accidents. By day 3, she had it down.
This doesnt help since you have a boy but I would put her favorite dresses on her. She knew if she got wet, she would have to put pants on and her dresses would be dirty. This helped ALOT! We also did the sticker chart (10 stickers, we went to toys r us and she chose a toy) and m and m's for each time she went.
For us, it was MUCH EASIER than I ever dreamed it could be. She is not night trained yet but she goes directly on the regular toilet and hardly ever has an accident anymore. She got it pretty fast. Another thing, I went straight to underwear, no pullups. I hate them!! When they feel the wetness in underwear, they are really feeling their accident. GOod luck..I know it can be trying..I was so afraid to do it..but took the advice of some on the boards and just went with it..it helped that she was older too.

Thanks!
Your experience sounds MUCH easier than mine is...we are on day 4 and feel like he's regressed. he isn't excited when he goes, rewards don't work etc..
He is controlling it OK..but isn't telling me either. I am constantly putting him on the toilet to go...and I too went straight to underwear...he knows when he's wet because he comes up to me and gets upset and says "uh oh, yucky" but it doesn't seem to help him actually say the words to me "I have to go potty".
I know i have to be patient but it has been really hard!!

I am in potty training hell. a few months back DD showed interest and asked me if she could go poo poo in the potty, I was so shocked and excited so she did, she was all excited then I go and buy the video and she watched it in shock and now refuses to go in the potty. I dont know what to do so I am hoping when she starts her slow separation class next week she will see other kids doing it and get back on the bandwagon. I tried the rewards, the candy, the stickers, went to store she picked her own potty- nothing has worked oh and wanted to add she screams if I have her naked waist down and will go and get her pullups and put it on herself- I have hid them too

Re: How many days of potty training before they started to "get it"?? would appreciate any feedback/help...
I think all kids are different and they "just get it" out of the blue. The first 2 days, I didnt think Megan would get it at all. I would set the timer for 20 minutes at a time and when it went off, I made a huge game out of running to the potty. She loved it..hardly ever went when we got there but loved running and sitting down on it, it was exciting for her. After day 2, I just randomly asked without the timer and on day 4, she was telling me on her own. I am not saying its perfect now, shes had a few accidents and night time isnt going too great..but I think they get it in their own time. I agree with you though, DO NOT go back to diapers at all..I think it will confuse him. Just stick with it and he will eventually get the hang of it. I could be wrong, its just my opinion.

Don't go back to diapers!! Just keep going. It depends on the child how long it takes. My DS toilet trained about 2 months ago and he got it overnight. I guess he was just waiting for me to initiate it.
