How many families in your school district were kicked out because of being un vaccinated?
Just curious. I heard that 38 families in our district were given letters. Not sure how many actually stayed unvaccinated...
I thought that was high?

Not sure, but I know of one friend whose DS was not allowed back to our school this year. She is homeschooling him right now. She said that there are a lot of them who are doing this because of the vaccinations.

I really have no idea, but I do have a friend of the family who had to keep her son home. Both parents work full time, so the grandmother, who is a retired teacher, is homeschooling him for now

This would not be public info I’m sure. While you might hear numbers through the grapevine the school would not put this out there

My nephew received one of those letters in our district, but it was because he was missing one shot. My brother took him that day, he got up to date, and he was back in school the next day or a couple of days after. So while it's 38 letters, it could be situations like that too.

I am not sure about the district but everyone in our school is vaccinated. This was discussed at PTA as we live very close to the outbreak last year.

Re: How many families in your school district were kicked out because of being un vaccinated?
I am not sure it would be legal for the school district to give this info out as I could see a strong HIPPA violation coming out of a disclosure like this.
You would have no idea if a child is born in October and needed a vaccine that they would receive at their annual visit, but did not have by the first day of school, or if their was a vaccine shortage when they were supposed to receive an inoculation, and then forgot to go back for it when available. Or the child was sick at their annual visit and did not receive a vaccine. Or the parent was pregnant and the child did not get the MMR because the mother's titers said she could expose her unborn child to MMR. There are so many reasons a child might not be up to date, and then later could have fixed the issue. I would not believe everything you hear that 38 kids received letters and are kicked out of the school.

Re: How many families in your school district were kicked out because of being un vaccinated?
The school district didn’t put out the information (obviously). We just have a very small, very active community, and the parents have rallied together and have been very open about their situations. We were on News 12.
Was just curious if our district seemed to be an anomaly (meaning that we had higher numbers than usual).

I don't think official numbers would be available, however anecdotally I do know families that decided to homeschool rather than vaccinate.

I think our district sent out way more letters than that. Especially with the 7th Grade Vaccination because most of us were waiting until our annual to get it and didn't realize we needed it prior to a certain date. I do not know how many ended up not vaccinating and started homeschooling but it's really none of my business anyway.

Re: How many families in your school district were kicked out because of being un vaccinated?
Considering there were at a minimum 26,000 impacted by the repeal of the religious exemption alone I am sure that is not a very high number. In addition, there was a last minute law impacting medical exemptions right before school started so many children who had a legitimate medical reason previously to not get a shot (prior serious reaction, other underlying condition etc) now had to comply in some cases regardless of their doctors views. Some did not want to risk their child’s health and chose to homeschool. Also you just have those without exemptions that may have been behind. You use the term “unvaccinated” but that’s really not accurate. Many of these children already could have 40 vaccines and may only be missing the fourth in a series and according to this law Could be kicked out of school. What’s even more bizarre is that friends living in Connecticut, New Jersey, Florida etc are not subject to any of this. Basically your rights as they pertain to your own child depend on the state in which you live in this country. For those that don’t care because at this point in time it doesn’t impact you that our state can basically make a law overnight without it being voted upon etc taking away rights of its people - I hope next on the list isn’t something that does impact you!

Why is that bizarre? States have different gun laws, abortion laws, car seat laws, marriage laws. How is this any different?

Yes, I don't care because it doesn't affect me. My daughter is and always will be fully vaccinated. If I had to worry about everything in this world that doesn't affect me I'd be in a mental hospital. My anxiety is bad enough as it is, one of my coping mechanisms is to not borrow trouble. When something happens that does impact me, I will worry about it then. I don't care to gossip about how many people have been kicked out of my district due to not following the law. It's none of my business

Unfortunately though, this isn’t just about “not following the law”. I have always followed, and continue to follow, the CDC schedule. However- my youngest had an adverse reaction to the MMR, one that could have been potentially fatal- required a 2 day hospitalization and numerous follow up visits. My pediatrician had said she would never get the 2nd dose bc of it, and yet now- she likely won’t qualify for a medical exemption according to the new laws. If I want her to attend kindergarten in the fall I will have to give her this vaccine knowing that she may very well wind up in the hospital, requiring blood infusions. I am not anti-vaccines. I give my kids the flu shot every year. After my little one was hospitalized due to the MMR, I still gave my oldest the booster. I am terrified, however, to give my youngest the 2nd dose and I am very resentful that my very legitimate reason for not giving it to her may no longer be accepted.

Im sorry I know first hand how hard this is. I know many in this situation. Even someone whose child is a hemophiliac and the child’s doctor filled out the exemption based on the fact that a vaccine could kill the child. It was denied. It’s a rare case and the person that had to rubber stamp it was unfamiliar. They had to move out of state.
It’s truly frightening what is going on. It’s not about gossiping (as an above poster put it) it’s about standing up for what is right and wrong and recognizing we are dealing with the lives and health of CHILDREN. And I’m sorry but I think this is different than gun and marriage laws. When it is your child you will get it. And then it will be too late. If your child has a life threatening peanut allergy how would you feel if you have to shove peanuts down their throat or they couldn’t go to school, and think how your child who probably loves school and loves their teacher and friends suddenly could not attend.

Unfortunately because of vaccine and autism propaganda lot of people not vaccinating And the real kids who are allergic etc are suffering
Parent of 2 - one severely autistic child / other close to neurotypical For my second I did a delayed schedule so I dont overwhelm him with shots
It’s unfortunate that state interferes with everything these days

Re: How many families in your school district were kicked out because of being un vaccinated?
We are lucky to have not lived through too many times of emergency, outbreaks, etc. But when the risk is there, the givernment has to have the power to act to effect containment and prevent spread. It is a matter of public health.

I’m sorry but I think you might not be informed on the current situation. I would completely agree with you if this were in regard to the MMR or polio for example especially if the concern of a disease resurgence but, requiring a child to have the third HeP B shot or kicking them out of school shows that there is another agenda going on. hep b for example is not even airborne.
Also, there should always be exceptions to protect the life or health of a child. If your child was hospitalised and almost died like the above posters I’m sure you wouldn’t want to give them the second mmr either! ??????????????

You're picking an extreme case. Vaccines work when the supermajority of the population is vaccinated. having 1% unvaccinated, fine. having double digit% unvaccinated provides an opportunity for the disease resurgence.
Our government has many different layers with different powers and responsibilities. You can argue states shouldn't do this. I argue states shouldn't have to do this, however, there is a too large part of the population who gives into vaccine propaganda BS that now they have to. It has some fallout where people with legitimate medical reasons for not being able to comply are in a problematic situation and those should be worked through. I don't know the process for medical exemptions, but there should be one with doctor input.

Re: How many families in your school district were kicked out because of being un vaccinated?
Back to the OP - I just got a letter yesterday. They don't have a record of my son's last Dtap booster. He actually had it in Feb but I haven't had to submit his latest physical because of his grade. So I am sure a lot of people got letters that actually are up to date. I doubt the letters are all for people that had medical exemptions in the past.

I 100% agree with this, if we didn't have majority of people jumping on the Vaccine bandwagon and using medical/religious exemptions to not vaccinate their child, government wouldn't have to step in. Blame these people who mess it up for the ones who actually can't get vaccinated. I think people use these extreme cases for their defense. For no good reason because no one is saying vaccinate your child that is allergic or can die from it.
One of the reasons I am happy my son goes to catholic school. But this does not effect me as well, I vaccinate my son and he just had his round of shots for his 11th bday and Flu.
