DS loooooooooves fruits and veggies. He eats them all day long - cucumber, tomato, lettuce, carrots, apples, banana, peaches, cherries, watermelon, honeydew. The problem is he doesn't eat eat much meat. He eats like a girl on a diet. He is a very lean toddler. We've been trying to fatten him up but he remains lightweight.

first you should have ZERO guilt! your are an amazing mom and it sounds like michael eats the typical toddler food, which at this point is fine! you can always see a nutritionist when the craziness settles if you're concerned though.
josh eats a huge variety of veggies and fruits but he doesn't eat a lot of anything. i give him a little fruit for breakfast and lunch and then a veggie for dinner. he drinks pediasure instead of snacking mainly.
so breakfast will be maybe 7 grapes or a 1/4 banana (he eats it with a yogurt and a carb- pancake, waffle, cereal, etc.)
lunch- usually a sandwich (deli meat, egg salad, pbj, etc.) with some fruit. maybe 1/2 cup cranberries or raisins, 1/2 can manderines, 1/2 cup of water mellon, cantalope, mango, or 1/5 of apple.
dinner is always a meat with a side of carb and veggie. if i give him something with everything combined then he will just pick out the thing he likes the most and won't eat the rest so i give all 3 seperately. the veggie can be between 1/4-1/2 of cup: peas, mushrooms, edammame, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, cut up eggplant, corn, baby corn, sprouts. cellery, fried zuchini, almost all veggies are eaten with either cheese or sauce. salad he can eat a huge bowl when it has dressing on it. he also will have some straight v8 juice when i offer it which i guess i should more often.
my little guy hates most food and will only eat dr. preagers littles. so i give him 1 or 2 spinach bites or sweet potato bites a day.
i try not to stress about what he eats just that he has something in his belly.

the last 3-4 days, DS has only been eating fruit. practically nothing else.
on a normal day, he has about 5 fruits a day--he loves bananas, peaches, strawberries, blueberries, etc and those are his snacks.
veggies--he likes peppers and cucumbers.
LOVES corn too!

DD will not eat ANY veggies. NONE!
Fruit....some days she'll eat a ton and some days none at all. It all depends on her mood.
That's my DD too! Although she'll eat corn which is the worst of the veggies but at least it's better than chips I guess.

Kell, you know Gracie is not "normal" in that she'll eat any/all fruits/veggies.
Today for example she ate 1/2 a container of blueberries w/ yogurt at breakfast.
Then her morning snack she ate a bowl full of watermelon.
Lunch (we were at a picnic & she doesn't eat hotdogs, so she just had some strawberries from the salad & in the car on the way home she ate a whole apple.
Usually she'll have a veggie for lunch (corn, string beans, lima beans or lately she's asking for a salad)
PM Snack after her nap is usually "junk": pudding or fruit chews or a cookie
Dinner: She'll have another veggie & fruit
But again, she's not typical.
I can tell DS is going to be a picky eater...

Re: How many fruits and veggies does your 2-3 year old really eat?
I don't think my child is the norm at all
He eats applesauce in his oatmeal every morning.
He eats a bowlful of fruit everyday as a snack. It's usually watermelon, cantaloupe, and honeydew or strawberries. It's probably about a cup of fruit.
When he gets home from school (and after his nap on the weekends) he usually eats a whole apple as a snack (I peel the skin off because he will often gag/choke on it)
Dinner usually involves cucumbers. He'd eat as many as I let him. I try to limit it a bit since they're a bit gassy. Depending on what else we're having for dinner, he'll have a small portion of whatever veggie we're eating (but I'm usually incorporating it into the meal...ie add peas into meatsauce, put cranberry on string beans with chicken)
He won't just eat carrots and peas or corn on the cob. I have to mix it in. He'll eat all of those in a gerber chicken stew, kwim.
I have the opposite issue with him....he won't eat anything breaded or fried...no french fries, no chicken nuggets.
Veggies are a challenge for us but he'd live on fruit if I let him.
We also try to give him fruitable drink boxes, but he's not really big into juice. I'm lucky if he drinks 2 a week. But those have a serving of fruit and veggies in it.

Re: How many fruits and veggies does your 2-3 year old really eat?
Caden is my best eater by far. There really are very few things that he doesnt like. At any given time however he may turn his nose up at something and say he doesnt like it. We just offer it again and ignore the drama.
Veggies:
He loves brocolli, cauliflower, corn on the cob, cucumbers, celery, carrots and salad of any type of greens.
He will eat spaghetti squash, butternut squash, green or yellow squash, artichoke, asparagus, peas, and edamame.
He consistantly doesnt like tomatos and brussel sprouts.
Fruit:
You name it he likes it. Doesnt really appear to have a favorite.
On any given day he will have 2-3 servings of fruit. But then there are the days when he wont have any. Usually b/c I havent been the market. Yesterday he had a banana with breakfast and a berry mix with lunch. He isnt a fan of juice and prefers chocolate milk or yoohoo. So I buy juiceboxes for him b/c he'll drink it. He has one "Elmo" juice per day. Oh and usually some prunes too...forgot about those. He eats them like candy.
Most days he will have 2-3 servings of vegetables...Again there are those days when he doesnt have any unless pickles and ketchup count as vegetables. Usually its salad or something leftover from the night before for lunch..for dinner it's whatever Im making. Ive, for example, we're having brussel sprouts, I'll make brocolli too b/c I know he doesnt like them. He could probably eat 1/2 a steamable bag of brocolli if I let him. He loves it!!! Salad is always a given too. He'll eat pretty much any raw veggie as long as it's in a salad. The exception being tomatos. (He does keep trying them though)
