Re: How many of you were still renting when you got pregnant/had your first child?
I am still renting...and it doesn't bother me one bit. I know we'll own a home at some point and I never ever would have put having children on hold b/c of renting vs. owning. Doesn't make sense to me. If that were the case we would have been 35 before we had kids and I didn't want to wait (neither did DH).
In the scheme of things it's not very important I feel. Having children is much higher on my priority level as opposed to where and how I live. And it allowed me to stay at home since our rent is afforable, something I've always wanted to do!

That was kind of dh and I's "deal", house first, then baby
we closed on our house on July 2nd and I found out I was pregnant on July 16th
BUT - you don't live on LI! I'm sure a house in NC isn't cheap, but nothing like living on LI....
That's an unfair statement to make......
Whatever your situation, you learn to adapt..... We own a house, but we rented the upstairs up until 3 weeks before DS was born.....and sometimes I still think the house is too smal....
Put it this way, there will always be SOMETHING......conditions will never be optimal, so I say......let the TTC begin!!!!!

Re: How many of you were still renting when you got pregnant/had your first child?
We lived in a 2 br apt (1 br was small) when we had our first. We were a little tight on space but honestly it was no problem at all. DH wouldn't let me get pregnant with #2 until we had a house though. I was pregnant with #2 within 3 months of moving into the house .
ETA: We lived in the apt until he was 2 years old.

We are renting and we're in a 1 bedroom with a yard but we also have a Boxer Its getting tight, but by staying super organized and clean its totally doable...our goal is to be out of where we are next summer though...by staying where we are right now we are saving a lot of $$$.

Re: How many of you were still renting when you got pregnant/had your first child?
i am PG with #1. we rent and plan on doing so for a while, we have decided that we would rather pay off uor monstrous debt then start accruing more in the form of a mortgage. while it might be a buyers market now, i don't really see it improving anytime soon... and i would hate to see the value of my new home go down instead of up.
a baby doesn't take up that much room - my friend and her DH and DD live in a tiny two-bedroom apartment and they do just fine.

We live an apartment with #1 and will probably be there when we have #2.

Re: How many of you were still renting when you got pregnant/had your first child?
When we found out I was preggo it was August 2006 and we were renting in one bedroom
I was so scared--we thought we could have the baby in the one bedroom but I knew it wouldnt be the kind of space we ideally wanted
We couldnt afford a house in brooklyn, so we bought a 2 bedroom condo instead- We closed in March 2007
It was hard being preggo and looking for a place to live..but somehow it worked out.....now...what to do with baby #2??????

I rent. We live in Manhattan and to buy here is ridiculous. We don't know if we ever want a house in the burbs, or if we want to stay in the city. For now, it works for us.

We rented & bought a house when I was pregnant with #2. We were getting killed in taxes every year until we bought a house.

Re: How many of you were still renting when you got pregnant/had your first child?
My DS is a little over 2 and we have always rented so far.. we are currently moving from a 2 br apt to a 3br (much more spacious).. so we should have more space for a playroom and what-not
I always said we wouldn't have another baby until we have a house.. but with a 3br.. it's not like we don't have the space
Our goal is to buy a house when we leave this new apt.
It's so expensive on LI and soooo hard to save
