How many people allowed in??
So my younger sister is getting induced today at South Nassau. My older sister and I were planning to go after work to see her while she is in labor and we just found out only 2 people are allowed in the room before she gives birth (other than the dad). And the same 2 people, we can't even switch off! I'm totally bummed not to be able to be there with her.
Is this common at hospitals?? Anyone know the deal at LIJ? I deliver there in November and between us girls I wouldn't mind having a rule keeping my in laws out lol...

Re: How many people allowed in??
I know at Winthrop my mom popped into the delivery room at one point, but honestly I didn't want people coming in and out. They waited in the waiting room. After the delivery they let the whole family into the room to see the baby before we went upstairs.

Re: How many people allowed in??
I'm going to be delivering at Good Sam and they only allow 2 people.. So I am going to have SO and my mom... They told us that they can't switch off with anyone either. I think I would be distracted if they kept switching anyway.

Re: How many people allowed in??
I don't know about anywhere else but yeah South Nasau is only 2 and actually I think the 2 includes the Dad if I remember correctly. And yes no switching off. The two that are going to be there sign in and get bracelets and then that's it until the baby is born. Those two can come and go but they can't switch off with other people.
I actually liked it that way, I didn't want a parade of people coming in and out while I was laboring.

Re: How many people allowed in??
4 "supports" (people) are allowed in the delivery room at S. Nassau. I just went for the hopsital tour on Thursday and this is what they said. They are the same people. Whomever is in the room with you gets a specific bracelet to identify who is coming and going. They keep this bracelet on once the baby arrives too. All have the same number on them.
Obv. for a c-section only the dad or 1 other person is allowed.

How many people allowed in??
I delivered at South Nassau and only 2 people were allowed in the delivery room but the visiting hours, once she's in her recovery room, are 24 hours and there is no limit to the amount in the room.

Unless things have changed since March 2012 when I gave birth there that isn't correct, it's two (dad included).

I may have done that- I made up my own rules and passed it off as hospital policy so that I could get the birth experience that I wanted

This is what they said this past Thursday during the hospital tour and orientation. I think things have changed. Something about them being a more baby friendly hospital (whatever that means lol., why wouldn't all hopsitals be baby friendly) and like the pp said yes, visiting hours are now 24 hours.

Re: How many people allowed in??
i delivered at LIJ (new hyde park) in February they allowed as many people as I wanted in the room with me. Not including DH, i had 6 people there until it was time to push - then it was just DH and my mom. when we arrived we told them we had people coming and they ask what we wanted (who can come in and how long they can stay) so we told them up until pushing anyone can come in and they were great to accommodate us. before they allowed people to come in they checked with me first just to make sure it was ok.
edit - they do make everyone (including DH) leave the room when its time to get the epidural, but then they send them right back in when its done

How many people allowed in??
Have you asked your sister if she wants you there. (ooopssss that kinda sounded bad but not meant in nay bad way)
I know when I was at Good Sam the nsurses told me they would tell family whatever I wanted.
We only had me and DH there and we made that perfectly clear to everyone but I do know the staff is pretty good about blockng family if that is what the parents want.

Pretty cool...I'll prob lie and tell everyone the rules are the same lol since visiting hours are 24 hours are there better accommodations for dads who want to stay over? Dh slept on the floor in my room lol he won't be staying over this time bc he has to be home with DS but I'm just curious.

LOL no I know what you mean...I'm sure she wants us there but it's not just me, it's my older sister, my husband, the father-to-be has a sister. We have mothers, fathers, stepfathers, grandparents. Both of the families are big and very close so it is totally understandable if they made an exception for us it wouldn't be fair to the Dad's family. This is the first baby in our family in almost 15 years so everyone is super-excited and hyper! Like I said, when it's my turn I have no problem turning people away and blaming it on hospital "rules"!!

Lol...I would double check to make sure she would even want visitors. When I had my first DD it was DH and my stepmom. I didn't want anyone else while I was in labor even though I had 15 people waiting in the waiting room.

I'm pretty sure during the tour the nurse mentioned you can have up to 6.

Re: How many people allowed in??
I was told at Stony Brook your allowed 'two support persons' plus a doula.
This is including your husband. So him, someone else -- and if you're using a doula.

How many people allowed in??
I delivered at LIJ NHP 3 weeks ago. You are allowed as many people that can fit in the room during L&D and people can come in and out as much as you want. I had my older sister and DH. Then SIL came in to say hi, then my ILs. My sister told everyone to get out so I could rest (DH kept trying to get my ILs to leave - not my SIL though - and they wouldn't take the hint, they thought it was a hang out room). While they were in the waiting room, my dad came back to see me. Even while pushing, my SIL came back into the room (I asked for her) so there were 3 people in there while I was pushing (SIL, my older sister, and DH). They told us they believe that the patient should get whatever they want during delivery which is good and bad. There is no way to stop people, except telling a family member in the waiting room to field people from coming back.
