30 tops.
first costume I bought for 1.25 cents(old navy, clearance, coupon)

At DD's age, my limit is $30 give or take a few dollars. I'd be willing to spend more when she's older and can get more use out of it.

Re: How much $$ can you justify spending on Halloween costumes?
We havent spent any more than $25 on Jacob's Halloween costume. I just dont think spending more is worth it when he is only going to wear it for a day. They have really cute ones for $25 so I dont feel the need to spend more.

Re: How much $$ can you justify spending on Halloween costumes?
I think I spent $25 on DSs costume last year, maybe $20 actually at BRU. He was a giraffe. One Step Ahead had a very similar costume that I ordered, but I was on back-order. It was $10 more, so I cancelled that order and bought the BRU costume.
$25 is my budget, more or less for a costume this year.

I think I'll be getting the monkey costume from Old Navy for $22.50.

Re: How much $$ can you justify spending on Halloween costumes?
I can't see spending more than 30 unless it is a costume that will be used again and again like for dress up.
Her first costume, an angel was 20 and so was her second, a cheerleader. This year we are using one of the princess dresses we got her in Disney. (One was bought with gift money and the other on a gift card so we spent nothing out of pocket) We bought 2 figuring she would wear one again for Halloween.

Re: How much $$ can you justify spending on Halloween costumes?
I think that amount is a lot, but that's just my opinion. I have no idea what my mom spent on DD's two costumes- she made both and they were great. She wouldn't take any $$ from me. I am assuming she will make her costume again.
