How much did/are you budgeting for a 1st bday party? How many people are you inviting?

I think I will be inviting about 50 ppl. I'm thinking $50pp so I guess I should expect to spend ~$2500?

That's alot for a 1st bday IMO. I guess it depends on what kind of party you are looking to have.

DD is a February baby, we're not planning on anything elaborate. Something small at home, although between DH and I we have 7 siblings, spouses and 8 nephews/neices. Then friends so probably around 50 people.

I have no idea where to start, which is why I asked the question. I don't know what is normal or not.

We are the first amongst our friends to have children.

Holy cow!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Really???? I just had my DD's 1st birthday and no joke................for the decorations, hall rental, drinks, and food I spent under $600 total.

We had 42 adults. I got all my decorations at Party City and I bought the Balloon Time helium tank for the balloons for only $20 at BJ's. I was able to rent the clubhouse in my Gram's townhouse complex for $100. I ordered a 6ft. hero of chicken cutlets, fresh mozzarella, and roasted red peppers for under a $100. I made a huge tossed salad and provided dressings and croutons. I made 4 half trays of Penne ala Vodka and 4 half trays of Sausage and Peppers from scratch. We also had baskets of Italian bread. We got a delicious birthday cake from BJ's for $19.99 and I made cupcakes and bought chocolate chip cookies in the bakery dept. of Waldbaum's for $5. My BFF made brownies and hand dipped chocolate pretzels for dessert as well. EVERYTHING was delicious. There was plenty of food and we even had leftovers.

I guess my point is.............an awesome party can be had for waaaaaaaaaaay less money than $2500. I didn't even spend that for her christening and we had more people and catered everything including two waitresses. Chat Icon

It's all relative on what you decide to do.

I had it in my backyard - with 150 people.

Below are some rough estimates:

Rented a tent, tables and chairs (i think around 400 - can't remember)
Hired Waitresses (200)
Hired Entertainment and a bouncy (300-350)
Ton of Food (500-600)
Desserts (300)
Someone to BBQ for us (100)
Favors for the 45 kids (150)
Beer, Soda, Etc. (300-400)
Decorations (150)

All in all I spent between 2K-2,500

We had it at a restaurant and I think had about 55 people there. I think it was about $35 per person not including alcohol. I hired an Elmo and a face painter to come so that was about $400 I think - I really can't even remember. And we got two Carvel cakes which were about $100.

These are the types of costs that I was thinking of.

I thought it would cost about $30-40 for the actual meal at a restaurant, gratuity, then decorations, favors, cake, etc.

Our party will be mostly adults. I don't know if we should have one of those entertainers.

Hopefully as DS gets older, he will make friends we can invite to his future bday parties. For now, it's still all our adult childless friends.

Because we did a big Greek christening at a catering hall, we are going low budget for his 1st birthday.

In fact, DH didn't even want to have one but I veteod that. I am hoping to rent a hall and just order heros and pizzas and have about 50 people.

I am only inviting immediate family and our close friends with kids.

we went small for his birthday party... we had 45 people and just did food, booze, and cake.... there was only one or two other kids so to pay for entertainment was pointless... i think we spent maybe 400.00

Re: How much did/are you budgeting for a 1st bday party? How many people are you inviting?

we had a huge first bday. Rented a hall. Paid PP for the beer wine and soda. Then had 7 trays of food catered. had a custom cake with picture done. Hired a clown for 2 hrs of childrens entertainment. We had a lot of people there. Id say 85 adults, 15 kids. personalized favors for the kiddies. We spent around $2500.Chat Icon

2K We are having it at a restaurant that recently bought the store next door to make a big catering room. It is approx. $30pp and includes all alcohol and a full buffet dinner and dessert included. The decorations we are ordering cheap from oriental trading and Party City!

We are having approx. 50 people

Re: How much did/are you budgeting for a 1st bday party? How many people are you inviting?

We are in NC and will probably only have immediate family come (may 20 people at the most). I'm not sure what to do -- either something casual at our house (catered -- I don't want to cook), or at a restaurant. There would only be adults coming, no children, so I just don't know????

I'm hoping for less than 1K.....

Re: How much did/are you budgeting for a 1st bday party? How many people are you inviting?

I am starting to get hall prices and the range is 35pp-50pp. Our invite list is about 20 kids and 65 adults. I'm hoping for about 70-75. Between the hall/entertainers(DJ, etc. It could run over 3k. I wouldn't mind doing it in a VFW/KofC but I'm not having much luck.

ditto. Maybe not even $200. Having it at my mom's house, everyone will make food, I'll get a cake. That's about it.

OMG, $50 per person??? That's insane. JMO though. For Liam's Christening, we rented a room, catered and had 60 people and all said and done it was about $1200 (with booze too).

Re: How much did/are you budgeting for a 1st bday party? How many people are you inviting?

We'll probably have about 40 people, but won't spend more than a few hundred dollars. It is going to be in my parents house. The biggest splurge will be the cake. I am not hiring any entertainment, the babies can play with the toys we have. We don't have any friends or family with any older kids, but if they did, I'd go to the dollar store and get some coloring books and crayons.

Unfortunately, $50 pp is not that insane. That seems to be the going price (maybe a little less) for lunch at a restaurant with alcohol included - after you add tax and gratuity.

What kind of party do you want to have?
Are there going to be a lot of kids there or mostly adults?
If the party is in the winter, you'll have to do indoors - either restaurant, rented hall or home.
