How much did it cost you to install CAC????
One zone and/or two zone with duct work. The whole kit and kabuddle.

how much work did that require? like did they need to rip up alot of walls?
we want to do this but are worried it would be a big mess. how long did it take?

I have no idea what my parents got specifically but they have a 4bdrm, 2.5 bath ranch with formal DR and LR and they just paid $10,000.

A lot depends upon what brand you get, how many tons the unit is and the SEER rating of the CAC unit. We got a Trane, four ton, 15 SEER, a whole house air cleaner and returns in all the bedrooms (this was extra). We had nothing - everything had to be installed. It was about $12,000. If we got two zones it would have cost more. If we went with the 13 SEER (minimum) and no air cleaner, it would be less than $10k.
ETA: You also have to pay to have the dedicated electric lines run for the condenser and the air handler - can get expensive (several hundred dollars).

How much of your house they have to tear into depends on the type of house you have. My wife and I looked for our home for 3 years and came to one definite conclusion, splits are easier to add central air too.

We had it installed in March 2006. We have a hi-ranch. We also had the furnace replaced, so our cost is not really reflective of what you are looking for, besides, we already had ductwork in place for our heating. I would guess a range would be $8K-$12K.

Wow, I"m glad my father in law does CAC. We paid 4,000 for a 3 bedroom ranch.

we are lucky too. DH works with a friend who does CAC...so he and a bunch of the guys did it. ALl we had to pay for was the units and materials ~$3500. We di have to update our electric also (old house) and so that was extra for us.
We have a 14 seer unit.
Love my CAC.
