I ride the LIRR and subway....and its about $350 a month for both

I spend $75 at least a week on gas- which I would say at least $50 is commuting

so that's $400

I've got to guess I fill my tank twice a week to cover ALL my driving and it's probably about $100/week. Most of my miles are to and from work.

I doubt if on the weekend I drive as many miles as it is to get to work once.

I drive 10 minutes each way, so I would say I fill up my gas tank once every week and a half...so roughly $40-50/month.

I used to commute form Selden to Great Neck. It was about 250 a month in gas. It wasn't the money that was the issue it was all the time spent on the road. I now work about 5 miles from home and fill up once every two weeks at the most.

I take the express bus to work in the morning ($5) and the subway home ($2). So it's about $35 a week or $140 a month.

LIRR - $262 for the mail & ride.

I walk the 1 mile to the train station when I can. Otherwise, it's nominal $ a week on gas.

ETA - Parking at our station is free.

I pay $76 plus gas to train station (5 miles each way per day)

But DH gets an "allowance" which is wayyy more than both of our commuting costs.

DH gets $76 reimbursement for Monthly Metrocard
AND
gets $300 / month in travel allowance paid on the 1st of the month.

So we actually make money every month.

I drive from Bayside to Stamford everyday and besides the money - it's taking a "toll" on me mentaly and physically

$76 for a monthly subway pass

Used to be $330/mo for LIRR, subway passes, and cab ride home when DH couldn't pick me up (about 10x per month).

next to nothing. i work about 8 miles from where i live, i fill up my car baout once a week.

and dh's commute is just about free too. he works for the LIRR, so he doesn't pay for the train and he drives about 10 minutes to get to the station.

$60/month for parking

$30/month for subway

I'm not even counting gas because I really only drive to and from the station... my car is the station car.

$234.22/month with the 2% Mail & Ride discount + $30/year parking

I also get $100/mo out of my paycheck for pre-tax dollars towards my commute
