Re: How much did your taxes increase after you bought your home?

We purchased our first home the same year we got married and owed over 4,500 that year. But we moved to a new state and owed taxes in two states and had multiple other taxable events occur so I am not sure it is 100% applicable to everyone else. Once we figured out our deductions and W2 info we were in a much better place I subsequent years, and would owe about 100.

I'd say, roughly $500/year.

I grieved my taxes on my own and lost. Last year I used a company and just got notification that we won, but not sure what the savings will be yet. Hopefully it'll make up for the difference in increases.

The first year the city tried to raise our property taxes $2500. I grieved them myself and they reduced the increase to $500. So far no additional increases- we will be here 3 years this spring.

Around $600 a year. But we have been getting those rebates here and there for property taxes, school taxes, etc.

We've been here since 2002. They've basically doubled. They were 5,400 and now over 10k.

From 6 years ago to now increased about 1,100 BUT that was also because I learned to grieve each year otherwise it would have been a lot more. I remember 2 years after we bought, the taxes that year alone went up 1,500 (this was before the school district tax cap) and then I found out how to grieve.

So far, I have always gotten a reduction but, its not always big. I just take whatever I can get. I know if you use one of those tax grievance companies they probably get more of a reduction for you but I also don't want to pay them half of my savings.

We just bought last year and our taxes actually went down 32%. They were in the process of being grieved when we closed..we knew they were way high to start with.

I heard the best thing to do is grieve every year.

Re: How much did your taxes increase after you bought your home?

My property taxes go up about $500 - $700 a year. I grieved them the first year and got a nice reduction (about $1500). I've tried to grieve them every year since but the company I use sends me a letter saying the assessment is correct and I would be unlikely to get a reduction. So they don't even try. Thinking about trying a new company this year. IDK if it would make a difference.

are you in nassau? If so do it yourself. 90% of the people who apply get a reduction. It's done by computer.

Thanks, I'm in Suffolk though. I wonder if it's easy to do here.
