How much do you buy for your child?
For summer clothes?
Is 9 pairs of shorts too much for a 9 year old boy? Of course a t shirt to wear with shorts. My son will not be able to wear a pair of shorts more than once before it hits the washing machine?
My 7 yr old DD will have 5 pairs of bike shorts, a scoooter skirt and 2 sundresses. Of course tops to wear with shorts.
Just wondering how much others buy. I am basically purchasing clothes at target and children's place.

Re: How much do you buy for your child?
My kids wear short sleeves nearly year round under a sweat shirt or cardigan in the winter. So for us t shirts last for way longer than just the summer. I get about 8 pairs of shorts and they are worn from April to September.

My son is going to be 5. He will have 5-7 pairs of shorts. I do wash daily. He has an unlimited supply of t-shirts. Like the PP said, he wears them all year long and can usually fit into multiple sizes at once. Like right now he can fit into 4T, XS, and 5.

I have twin boys usually I have like 12-15 pairs of shorts/ pants for the season. I go through a ton of clothes still because they are young. Some days 2-3 outfits so I feel I need enough to get through 5-7 days in case I don’t get to laundry

I don't even count! I'm so bad! LOL I buy a lot though. I have 2 boys. One is almost 10 and the other is 7 (will be 8 this summer). I don't spend a fortune though. My older DS loves the name brand stuff like UA and Nike. I get nice stuff that's not pricey at TJ MAxx, Marshalls, sales at Macy's and Kohls. Also a lot of stuff from Target. Between school, soccer, play dates, basketball and gymnastics they need a lot. Soccer shorts are different than his basketball and of course his everyday he'll wear to school or at friend's home on weekends. I feel like he changes a few times in a day depending on the activity. LOL I also have a couple of cheap dressier shorts I got at Children's Place they'll wear for nice dinners, holidays, etc.

Last summer I swore to myself I wasn't going to buy a thing this summer. I have girls and they prefer dresses all summer and already have a closet full of those. All their shorts sit in the drawer unworn. For the most part, I've stopped buying them clothes bc they have too much and I just fill in as they outgrow or destroy things and have purged down to a manageable amount. I don't buy for every season or school year.

Re: How much do you buy for your child?
For me it depends on your laundry situation.
We don't have a washer/dryer, I go to the laundromat, so I make sure I have enough for 10-14 days of everything.
But if I had a washer/dryer, then I would probably do enough for 1 week.

Way to much. It is ridiculous and it's all my own fault. I think I live vicariously through my kids because I was always chubby (still am) and couldn't wear a lot of stuff when I was younger, so I end up buying everything I think is cute for them lol.

same for my DS. I'm also lucky enough to have grandparents who buy him clothes whenever they go shopping, so he's more than good.
i think he has about 8-9 pairs of shorts that still fit from last summer. he owns about 30 t-shirts he can mix and match.
my biggest problem is shoes! he has three pairs of sneakers, but refuses to alternate them daily and wears one pair non-stop until he completely wears it out. i feel like i am buying new shoes every three months, and now that payless is closing, i have no idea where to buy shoes and not lose a small fortune!

I hear ya. I legitimately have a problem. Last summer I did not have enough room in 2 dressers for her clothes. She has 3 shoe organizers and 2 large drawers just for bows.
We should be on my strange addiction.

I do 8-10 shorts but a ton of t-shirts. DS 2 usually has more since he has a spring birthday and gets hand me downs.
I too buy a lot of Under Armour and Nike tops but get it all on sale (i don’t really love their shorts - they don’t wear well). I find it’s worth it as it lasts through two kids and is in great shape to be handed down to their cousins after they are done.

Re: How much do you buy for your child?
My kids have a lot of clothes, but they start to wear shorts at far colder temperatures than I would. They’re also rough on their clothes especially at camp. With working FT and generally being busy most nights and weekends during the school year, I don’t always have time to do much laundry. I make sure they have enough to get by for a while.

Umm, me too lol. I don’t go crazy, but she has enough to not wear the same outfit twice over 2 weeks. She lives in sundresses in the summer. And they last so long because she wears them with leggings when they start getting too short to be worn as a dress.

Re: How much do you buy for your child?
We get a week’s worth of clothes. I do laundry once a week.
In the winter, pants get dirtier than shorts... so we have about 7 pairs of pants. We have 4-5 pairs of shorts. Kids wear bathing suits a lot in the summer... so they get less dirty (sometimes are just worn in the evening).
Also don’t buy a new wardrobe every year. I like buying a bigger size in brands that tend to last at least 2 seasons (like Boden, Gap). We use hand me downs and I have repaired beloved clothes.
