I think ours went up to about $1800, maybe $1900/yr. Why is mine so much more than everyone elses'?Chat Icon Chat Icon

Its not based on whether you are in a flood zone or not.

N. Merrick to my knowledge is not considered a flood zone.

Homeowners is based on the replacement value=Dwelling. More house means more dwelling, therefore premiums will be higher.
Other factors are deductible amounts and territory.

Southern State is now considered the flood line...anything below is a hazard.

Are you kidding me?!?!? that's insane!! if you take southern state out east it travels north east at times. are you telling me that republic airport (southern state at one point travels right below it) could potentially be in a flood plain (or hazzard plain)????????????????????????????

i know people think we will be getting a bad hurricane but c'mon, i think alot of it is just fluff so companies can make more money!!

Republic Airport is north of the Southern State, isn't it??

I don't think that is true. We pay @ 1200 a year and live literally 1 block from canels on both sides and less than a mile from the open bay. We are south of Merrick Rd, but were considered just outside the flood zone- thank god!

Re: how much do you pay for homeowner's insurance?

We pay 350 for the year in central NJ. 1000 a month Chat Icon Chat Icon - I think I would cry. How big is the house? It goes by location, size of home, amount insured, any riders. If they have jewelery or expensive artwork it pays to shop those things separately from the home owners insurance. I have a separate jewelery policy from my home owners. In my research, the jewelery policy from a reputable company was a ton less than an additional rider on my home owners insurance by about 100 a month.

We are up to 1900 for the year through Liberty Mutual.

We started at $1080 when we moved in 4.5 years ago - by next year it will have doubled which I think is INSANE - and we have had no claims.
