How much does your car insurance go up each year?
We just got the new bill for our car insurance and it went up $1000! That seems a little steep. Just wondering how much everyone elses goes up. TIA

Since getting GEICO about 3 years ago, our insurance has not gone up at all.
Prior to having GEICO I had Liberty Mutual and they raised the rates every year. That's why I ultimately left them.

That IS steep! By any chance, did you have any accidents?
My insurance was going down every year (not by much, but still going down) and this year it went up by, hmmm, maybe $200 for the whole year? I would have to double check, but I also let my defensive driving discount lapse so I have to do that again to get my rate back down.

Someone hit DH earlier this year, said he would pay but then called his insurance company and blamed it on DH. The insurance agent assured DH that our rates wouldn't go up but now it says we have a 10% charge because of it. However $1000 is not 10%.

WOW, that is a lot.
Granted companies have rate increases but that is HIGH.
Have there been any accidents or violations in the household?
A company will rerun a license and if something is found, red flag, esp if within the last 3 yrs.
Def will incur an increase.

Wow, that sucks! I have Geico too - why not call Geico and a few other places and shop around? See if you can get a better rate.

Yeah, Liberty Mutual really pi$sed me off. I had a perfect record with them. No accidents, no tickets, nothing. Yet they raised my rates consistently to the point where their only answer was that rates were going up for everyone. I was so annoyed that I dropped them and went to GEICO. I would never go back to Liberty Mutual after that.

Ours went up about $40 last term. Geico said it was just the normal increase (too many claims from their insureds, etc.) I just got our bill yesterday and I don't believe it went up. $1000 seems to be a very high increase!

I don't think mine goes up at all, at least not in the last couple of years I've been living in Suffolk.
In addition to driving record or claim reports, they also check credit reports. And if you move, it might go up. I know when I moved from East Meadow to Long Beach, my insurance increased.

Ours has gone up approx $50 this year.
Not accidents or anything, Geico just said it was a normal increase (tho we have been insured with them for 5 years and never had it raised before )

Since switching to Geico ours hasn't gone up at all. I used to have Allstate, and Geico literally cut our rate in half for the same coverage.

I have allstate too- I have 2 cars and our rental policy on and there is a pretty good discount for having multiple policies...
I don't recall the policies going up year-to-year.. and they just went down because we went from a 6 cyl accord to a 4 cyl cr-v.

Allstate and mine goes down.
I get the good driver rates for every 6 months I am accident/violation free.
I use the same agent as Beth. Love him!
We are paying $185/mo. I also took the online defensive driver course. I have two leased vehicles that have max coverage and a $500 deductible.
Just a word about Geico, we had two accidents with them over 5 years. They ran the licenses and found the accidents and dropped us. They didn't raise the rates, just out and out dropped us. They didn't raise the rates at all during the 5 years.
$1000 is ludicrous.

if there wasn't an accident or tickets...it seems like a lot...unless they lured you in with a cheaper rate to get you to switch?
since moving back to NY, my rates with GEICO have gone every 6 months. Until Jan, I let my defensive driving slip and we made a small collision claim fro DH's bumper...even so - it only went up $70/year

I was hit earlier in the year and it wasn't my fault- my insurance only went up 10 dollars.
DH and I have eSurance. Very inexpensive!
