$188/month for train and $48/month for PATH. Parking is $220/year but, my inlaws live almost just as close as the parking lot so I park there (the only unfortunate thing is they are up a huge hill which is tough on these hot afternoons).

I drive ~10 minutes to work and home each day. I fill my tank about once a week at $30 b/c we use my car when going on errands.

I think with Mail & Ride I pay $198/mo for LIRR. Then I usually put $40 on my metro card (I take the subway to work, but walk back to Penn at night). I also walk to the train from home, so no gas $$ for that.
So, about $238.

About $125 per month for gas. My commute is about 46-50 miles roundtrip. My car gets 25-29 miles per gallon depending on if I'm sitting in alot of traffic.

My cost has gone up significantly this year since I decided to drive to the train station instead of taking the bus.
Parking: $170
MetroCard: $80
Monthly Gas: $40 (I fill up about once every two weeks and it costs about $40 but we also use the car for other things so it's not all commuting to work)
So, I went from $80 last year to $290  But it's worth it since it shaves over almost 2 hours a day worth of commuting that I can now spend with DS.

hmm probably about $80 a month in gas and parking is $112 a month so $192
i work 5 miles from home.

Probably $60-$70 in gas per month. I drive about 28 miles round trip per day. Thankfully, a few of us are starting a work carpool!

Just what I spend in gas. I work less than 5 miles from my home. So maybe about $60. in gas per month.

same here- times that by 2 for me and dh and that's alot of fing money!
i once figured all our transportation costs- for the train, subway, car payment, insur and gas and we pay almost $1300 a month on transportation alone- how is that possible? And we only have one car! how can we even think of getting another one.
we went from nothing (living in the city) to $1300 over night!

I am not sure about that
I drive from Bayside to Stamford everyday and besides the money - it's taking a "toll" on me mentaly and physically
You can't decuct them if they are part of your regular commute to the office - i.e. if your company is in Stamford.
However, I think that you can deduct them if lets say the office that you work for is in Bayside (where you live) and you are traveling to Stamford for a special project or to a client.
Also, you can deduct them if you are an independent contractor instead of an employee.
DH used to make the commute from Great Neck to White Plains every day.
