How much fish are you girls eating?
I love eating fish but i know mercury is a problem. If so how much fish do you eat a week, which kind. Also how about canned tuna is it really bad for you?

Re: How much fish are you girls eating?
I don't think canned tuna is that bad but it has to be eaten in moderation. I allow myself a Subway tuna melt once a week or once every other week. I'm also repulsed by meat so I have to go for the alternatives like shrimp or eel/crab/shrimp tempura sushi. But I am worried all the time that I'm overdoing it with the mercury.

Re: How much fish are you girls eating?
My doctor only told me of three things to stay away from and one of them was Tuna. The others were cold cuts and hot dogs. I would check with your doctor before eating Tuna.

There was an excellent website that someone posted a few weeks ago. I wish I had bookmarked it, but maybe try doing a search? Or hopefully the poster will see this and post it again.

I don't think this is the one she posted, but it is helpful.

Based on this website: "Women of childbearing age should limit the amount of canned chunk light tuna they eat to two cans per week." and you should avoid tune steaks. So like I said everything in moderation...

I am pretty sure Tuna and Swordfish are the ones you are supposed to eat in moderation.

Re: How much fish are you girls eating?
My OB said one can of tuna a week. Normally this isn't an issue for me as I don't like tuna - yesterday I had a MAJOR tuna craving so we had tuna fish sandwiches for dinner

Re: How much fish are you girls eating?
I eat it about once a week. Large fish (tuna, swordfish, etc) are more prone to mercury contamination than smaller fish (salmon, sardines, etc). I buy only "wild caught" fish rather than farm-raised b/c it's better. I think I've had one tuna sandwich since I've pg, but I don't crave it at all. As long as you're not eating them daily, it's probably fine.

Re: How much fish are you girls eating?
<while chewing a tuna sandwich>..
I'm not a big "fish" person, but I do enjoy tuna salad sandwiches on occasion, and of course fried shrimp. My doc said no more than 1 can of tuna per week, and make sure the shrimp are de-veined. Everything in moderation.

I was told I can eat a can of tuna a week! Unless you have an underlying problem, one tuna sandwich wont harm you or baby.

I love Tilapia I'm so happy I can eat it. I have been avoiding fish b/c I wasnt sure what I was allowed. What about shell fish? Can we have that?
