How much folic acid should i be taking?
just called my doc and made my first appt for my first sono, etc, after i got my BFP last night!
they told me i don't have to start pre-natals, which i thought was weird  said the doc will give them to me on my 2/2 appt. they did tell me however to start taking folic acid, the girl said "she thinks" it is 200mg. what should i be taking??

I'd just go get some over the counter Prenatals.
When I called to make my first appt, they didn't tell me to take prenatals either. Whne I went to the appt, the doctor was annoyed that they didn't tell me. They can't hurt you.

I have a severe stomach condition and can not digest the prenatals..
And i was told to take at least 700mg of folic acid a day.
So I am taking a chewable plus the quick dissolving folic acid daily and the doctor says its perfect...
One thing you have to add is iron though

i would just get a bottle of OTC prenatals...most have around 800mg i think

Most prescription Pre-natals have 1000mcg.
I take an over-the-counter which only has 800mcg. My doc told me I could continue with the otc pre-natals and just take an additional Folic acid supplement. So i take an additional 400mcg Folic acid, along with my pre-natal vitamin.

I've heard that 800 mg is the recommended amount. I've been taking OTC ones (Nature's Bounty, I think?) and they have 800 mg. I have my 1st doc appt tonight so hopefully he'll write me a prescription.

I've heard 800mcg-1mg. I wouldn't listen about not starting and I'd just go buy my own, especially since your appt. isn't for another 3 weeks.

I am 17 weeks and still take OTC One a Day Prenatals which have 800mg in them.
OB says he will prescribe ones when it is time...he said OTC is good for now.

My dr gave me a prescription for the floic acid of 4 mg.
When i would get the over the counter ones i would do 800-1200 mcg
