How much "maternity wear" is too much???
I'm starting to feel like I'm buying or have bought way too much stuff..and wanted to see if I was the only one. Since I have to dress up for work I've been buying stuff here and there..because I really didn't have clothing since I wore a uniform in my previous job..and now that I am in "corporate america" I have to dress up.
Ok so...my "Maternity" wardrobe started out with: 3 pair maternity pants (same ones but different colors - winter colors - black, brown and dark grey) 2 long sleeve shirts 3 pair of jeans 2 dresses 2 Dresses (not maternity - but able to wear them) 2 Cable knit sweaters (not maternity)
***Weekend "Maternity" wear*** 2 dresses bathing suit 2 pair of capri pants 2 pair of shorts 4 or 5 shirts (can be used for work or weekend) 3-4 T-shirts 1 pair of pjs (maternity) 1 pair of capri jeans
Now..unfortunately I underestimated my belly..and the 3 pair of pants I purchased in the Winter...don't fit me anymore. So..off to Target I went. Is it MY fault they had alot of nice things???
So..the collection got bigger because I purchased:
3 of the same maternity pants different colors in a bigger size). Dress (not maternity and black..because everyone needs a black dress LOL!) Sweater set (maternity)
Did I go overboard?

Re: How much "maternity wear" is too much???
well I have no where near that amount.
I have 2 pairs of jeans, one pair of black pants, 2 pairs of black sweat/yoga pants
And about 6 Maternity shirts
But I can still wear at least 6-10 of my regular shirts and sweatshirts etc.
I didnt buy anything else maternity.

Re: How much "maternity wear" is too much???
Ok..maybe I went a little overboard?? LOL! BUT..in my defense...(yes I have one), I felt like I was wearing the same thing over and over again and given the fact that some of the things I purchased earlier for work no longer fit..I HAD to go buy stuff..
I will say I try and mix in my regular clothing (shirts/sweaters if they fit). Unfortunately now..they don't really fit and I have more casual wear than anything else. I'm good for the Summer...
I will say that a few items can be used after I have the baby..as well because they aren't maternity wear..so I'm not at a total loss right?
If anything..I guess I'll just have to get pregnant again!

Re: How much "maternity wear" is too much???
Come look at my closet and I'll show you.
I went a bit overboard on shirts and tank tops but I figured I'll be getting sweaty all summer so better to have clean dry stuff to change into.
I have 3 pairs of shorts, about 6 pairs of capris, 3 pairs of pants and 2 pairs of jeans. Seems like a lot but my work place is casual so I can pretty much wear it all on weekdays or weekends and I had to start buying in Feb but need through August.
I also have 2 nice dresses, 4 casual dresses and a few skirts.
3 bathing suits - we practically live at the beach in the summers.
A sweater and a denim jacket.
It's a lot but can you ever really have too much?

I bought a lot and I've worn it all more than once and I'm not even working....I don't know how some women get through it with only a few pieces...

DH thinks I am wasting money on my maternity clothes. I buy at least 2 pieces every week.

Luckily I work from home so I didn't need that many "work" clothes - and I still fit into all my old sweats and stuff so I still wear them all the time....it's just my belly and boobs that grew!

Well, I don't even have a tenth of what you do. I have 2 capris, 1 pair of jeans, and a pair of velour sweats. As far as tops, about 6. It kills me to spend money on stuff I will only wear a few months and it is so darn expensive.

Re: How much "maternity wear" is too much???
Since you have a job where you need to dress up I can totally understand why you needed extra clothes. I have only bought 3 pairs of jeans since I can still get away with wearing larger shirts. I also wear scrubs to work so I don't need to worry too much about clothes except on the weekends.

Re: How much "maternity wear" is too much???
no thats not overboard - esp. if you're wearing it all and planning another baby I need to go shopping STAT. I have 2 pair of maternity pants and i was still able to wear my reg. work pants with bella band - last week but they don't fit so i'm desperate. I'll be looking tonight or ordering online today and winging it for the rest of the week

Re: How much "maternity wear" is too much???
Not if you are going to wear it...and a lot of the stuff you can wear after you have the baby..b/c unfortunately your prepreggo clothes dont fit right away!
I have about 12 Tanks and Ts..3 pairs of shorts...3 pairs of capris..and 3 pairs of jeans...+ I will be buying 1 maternity dress for upcoming daughters communion..This is all maternity...
I dont work and probably dont really need all this stuff...but I learned a long time ago that maternity wear looks a lot better than regular just larger clothes!
A quick maternity tip is that most thrift stores and goodwill stores have a lot of maternity clothes..most of it is in Nearly New condition b/c people dont wear it that long...I go in to a local one by me for books and 2 pairs of my jeans are from there and a pair of my capris..all Gap Maternity and look brand new.

I don't have enough. I only have 2 pairs of pants - both black. I can't find jeans to fit over my fat thighs. And shirts - I have a few, but not enough. I wish I had your selection!

Re: How much "maternity wear" is too much???
I just ordered some things from JCPenney and returned a bunch to Motherhood. In the end, I think I'll only have:
3 pairs of work pants 2 pairs of capris 2 polo shirts 5 button-down shirts
I'll probably want to add some tee shirts.

Re: How much "maternity wear" is too much???
Ok..now I don't feel so bad.
I know some people may see it as a waste of money..but honestly I can't imagine wearing the same thing over and over again. I too like to look hip and chic and with all of the styles out..it's VERY hard not to buy. I figure..worse case if we decide not to have any more kids, I'll donate it so that someone else can take advantage of the clothes I purchased. At least this way it's a tax write off and I know I'll be helping others.
BTW: Today I have on the black dress that wasnt' maternity..and it looks so cute!!
I have to say Target has some really cute stuff.

Re: How much "maternity wear" is too much???
I just starting wearing my maternity jeans, but everything else is in my closet waiting to be worn.
So far I have:
4 pairs of pants 1 pair of jeans 3 shirts
I will buy as much as I need - I don't care how much it costs! Being an overweight preggo, I want to try to look the best I can without looking sloppy or tent-like.

Re: How much "maternity wear" is too much???
So far I've been wearing all of my regular clothes with the help of bella band. I also bought a pair of maternity jeans (they're too big on me and I will not be purchasing any more long jeans), a pair of capris, a pair of black pants, and a few shirts...I'm going to stretch out into my 5th month and try to wear my regular clothes until I can, but it is slowly becoming unrealistic since the belly is growing.

this is my current problem. I put on my target black pants and they felt snug! I wish they had more full or evben half panel there!
this is my second, so I have a bit from the last one and Someone lent me a few items (although they were pregnant at a different time of year - it didin't help too much)
I have 3 dress pants - black, gray and pin stripe 2 pairs of casual - khaki and green 3 pairs of jeans (one doesn't fit anymore (from my first pregnancy) and one is falling apart) 1 black capri 5 pairs of short - 3 are from the last pregnancy and they are already getting snug around my bum 3 T shirts 4 button down shirts (1 is too small already) 2 empire type shirts 4 light sweater vests (I live in these over the button downs - that way i don't worry about my belly popping out) 3 turtleneck sweaters (can't wear anymore) 2 sleeveless shirts

Re: How much "maternity wear" is too much???
I'm jealous that you have found so much stuff you like! I am always browsing and have gone shopping several times. I seem to have no problem with bottoms but I have yet to buy one maternity top (with the exception of the tanks and t's at gap). I cannot find any tops i like that look right on me
So to answer your question...I WISH i had more clothes! All the maternity I have is: 2 Jeans - 1 gap, 1 seven 1 maternity dress (haven't worn it yet though) 1 pair of capri 1 pair of black pants 1 pair of cargo pants Gap tanks with built in support - 4 and two t-shirts.
But, its NOt for lack of trying...its all I've found that I like!
ETA: I'm not going naked though...I have been buying regular tops but i don't even have too many of these that work with my belly!

I just got back from getting my lunch and got complimented on my dress . The woman also said "I'm always so impressed by your maternity clothing". Little does she know alot of it isn't maternity wear...
WOO HOO! This made my shopping habit..worth it! Now if only I could get my FEET to cooperate!!

You really should check Target...sometimes they have really nice stuff. You can even get away with buying larger tops from the regular section as well. A majority of my clothing is from there and Motherhood. Good luck!!
