How much of a bearing does weight have on IVF success???
Just wondering if you guys know anything about the effect a persons weight has on the outcome of an IVF cycle...I'm currently waiting to begin my 1st IVF cycle and am trying my darndest to try to shed a few pounds that I seem to have put on through all my other IF treatments...I have 20 lbs that I want to take a hike and although I know they all aren't going anywhere before my cycle starts- a few would make me happy... I would have liked to have been at my ideal weight before we started this but it didnt happen- Whether it was in my head or not, Clomid and Provera did a number on me(not to mention the cookies that help me deal with all this stuff LOL)...Anyone have any insight on this ???/...Or can key me in to a diet that will help me move this along ????

I don't think it has much to do with it at all. Being overweight can mess with your insulin levels so you may be a little more prone to gestational diabetes but not the transfer itself. I know plenty of people who need to lose 20 pounds who have gotten pregnant and had healthy babies.

Actually depending on how overweight you are and what your diagnosis is, it can have agreat deal to do with infertility. If you are only 20 lbs over your normal weight, I don't think it matters, but if you are more than 50 lbs I think it can matter a great deal. I attached a website to help.
Good Luck!

Re: How much of a bearing does weight have on IVF success???
I'm overweight have been most of my life. I'm 5'7" and before starting IVF I weighed 185 lbs. I got pregnant on my first IVF. We have MF IF not sure if that matters. I think if you are very overweight and it messes with AF because of the hormones it may have an effect but 20lbs IMO is not going to have a negative affect. Good Luck

Thanks for the site !!....Im 20 over what I should be according to the diagram (although I'd like to lose more than that.)...Ever since I went off BCP 6 years ago my AF has always been IRR. I was told I have hypothroid and thats under control now w/ meds....Growing up and into my early 20's I was very thin,,Then bang I became horizontally challenged..After I had my DS, I went on Jenny Craig and lost 22 lbs- then I went off it..I'd like to do that again but I dont think going into any type of drastic diet like that is a good idea right now.Either way , whether it helps me with IVF or not- Its a good idea for me to lose this weight so I'll take some baby steps.....

Re: How much of a bearing does weight have on IVF success???
I am WAY overweight....and got pg on my second IVF. My RE wanted me to lose weight but at the same time, we didn't have any time to spare (I was 39 at the time).
I don't think you need to worry about 20 lbs.
