how much time off for DH??
I was just wondering how much time off from work your DH will be taking when you give birth or how much time he did take off for a previous birth? My hubby has 5 weeks a year but his company will only let him take a week to a week and a half tops at a time. I really wish he had more time to be home with me afterwards.....

Just wanted to say my DH only took 1 week off.. I think its probably enough time..
Of course make that if you can one week AFTER you get home from the hospital.

DH gets 5 weeks vacation and 1 weeks for sick - personal days per year. He will probably take at least 1 - 2 after she arrives. His job is flexible with him and he is able to work from home anytime he needs too, such as going to all my appointments, bad weather days, etc...

Al usually works from home, but he'll probably take off for at least 2 weeks after I have the baby, so he can focus on us and won't have to travel anywhere.

Dh was home for 2 weeks, the 1st week was great... by week 2 I was begging him to go back...he was driving me crazy!!!!!

My husband is a teacher and I think he only gets 2 days however it works out because my c-saection is right before February break so he will be home with me for that week I get home from the hospital

With Sarah DH took off 1 week, and we didn't get home from the hospital until Thursday, so it really felt like he was barely home when he went back to work on Monday.
This time it'll be the same. It's too hard for him to be away from his job for an extended period of time. But still makes me sad.

To be honest, for me it wasn't bad in the beginning. I was on this natural high and really didn't feel tired or anything. It was a few months later when I was really getting tired from caring for her all day long while he was at work that I asked him to take a day here or there to spell me.
ETA: The hardest part was having his parents over every day for 3 weeks and having to deal with them by myself. My MIL is very opinionated and was constantly telling me that I was doing everything wrong and yelling at me. I wish I'd had the guts to tell them they couldn't come every day, but I felt bad b/c they are from out of state.

YIKES! this does not sound good at all. I have a hard time speaking up in a situation like this too.
I am glad you didnt think it was too bad in the beginning. I am so nervous to only jhave my DH home with me for 1 week. this is my first child so I think Im just overly worried about everything :) thanks fo your responses.

my DH's company gives you an extra week off when you get married and when you have a baby, so he will be taking off that week plus a weeks vacation

He's planning on taking 4 weeks and he's been really cute about it. he keeps saying how much he's looking forward to our 4 weeks together! we never get to spend that much time with each other.

Dh took 2 weeks off.. Why I don't know... lol
All he did was sit in the backyard and get tan while I took car of the baby and my mom cook tons of meals for him that first week. Oh yeah and since I was breastfeeding he slept in and didn't get up at night. He had the life. I joked with him that he was the only new Dad who was going to go back to work... well rested and tan...
I could have used him home the third or four week because that's when my crazy new mom strength started dying out and I didn't have the tons of energy I had the first 10 days.

DH gets 1 week paternity leave which he will take after  is born.
Reading some of the other posts, I'm now thinking maybe it would be good for him to take one week initailly, and then another a month or two after as my mom will be around helping a lot. When mom leaves it may be good to have DH around...

Scott gets 1 "free" week of paternity leave and Christmas week he is always off. With the timing of Molly's birth he was home for 4 weeks and it was great.

My DH works for a small company, and really gets no time off. Based on what has happened with other guys in the office, I think I am only expecting about 2 days. 
I really hope that is enough, because I really don't want to have to rely on my MIL, but DH keeps saying she will come and stay for several weeks.
