Are these good friends? family? the relationship would make a difference.
I would say $50 - $100 .... more if it is a close friend or family member.

Re: How much $ to give at an engagement party?
I found this
Q: Should guests bring gifts to an engagement party? A: Most guests should not bring a gift to an engagement party, however many do. Engagement gifts are generally supposed to be limited to only the closest friends and family of the bride and groom. However, the bride and groom should never expect a gift from any of their guests.
Q: Should the bride and groom register for gifts before their engagement party? A: No, absolutely not. Registering is a way of saying you expect gifts. The bride and groom should not expect gifts at their engagement party.

Re: How much $ to give at an engagement party?
I would not give more than $50. Why should you? There will be a shower and then the wedding.
What ever happened to the traditional engagment party for the two families to meet? It makes me crazy that e-parties are turning into mini-receptions.

ITA! i had never even heard of an engagement party before i got engaged - we had a small thing with friends and family at a bar and i was shocked when most of our guests brought gifts! IMO if you WANT to, give around $50, or an equivalent gift (because most likely they will have registered) but you will most likely have to give a gift at the shower and the wedding, so don't go crazy now, unless it's a close friend or family member.

Re: How much $ to give at an engagement party?
I never give money as an engagement gift. You are not required to give a gift, and when I do get invited to a party, I usualy purchase some picture frames for the new couple. That is it.
This is only because they will be getting gifts for bridal shower as well, and I personally (my opinion-don't flame) don't think engagement parties are necessary.

I couldnt agree more. I am like when I read/see these engagement parties with placecards, favors, sit-down meals at a RH, etc. What is there to look forward to when the wedding comes then?

I agree. I always give an actual gift (not money) for an engagement gift and I don't really spend more than $50.

Re: How much $ to give at an engagement party?
I said 100 for 2 people bc the ones we have been invited to have been mini receptions... if people can afford them why not throw a party .. if u cant give a gift just your presence is awesome to the couple... more parties the better if you ask me ..bringing people together and creating memories is the most important thing in life!

I completely agree and that is why I refused to have one when I became engaged... theres the bridal shower, bachelorette , wedding... its all too much. I didn't want people to feel obligated to give us yet another gift.

Re: How much $ to give at an engagement party?
I personally am not a fan of engagement parties- its like arent there going to be enough gifts between the wedding and the shower. i am so over those big over the top show-offy parties. i would probably give a gift- a frame or something like that from lenox. i just hate the feeling like i am personally financing everyones weddings. enough already - rant done

Re: How much $ to give at an engagement party?
I don't think you should give $. My brother and SIL threw us an engagement party and we received picture frames, robes w/ our names on them, vases, stuff for our home, etc... We didn't register before it and though some people gave us money (and no one over $100 except our godparents/grandparents/close relatives...
ETA: What town is your engagement party in? We're supposed to attend one this weekend also but I don't think we're going to be able to make it. It'd be neat if it was the same one though!
