How much $ to send in for the school book fair?
How much is the average book? Is $20 enough? We have TONS of books so I hate to spend too much but new books are always enjoyed. How much do you send in with your DC?

I usually send in $15 to $20. cheapest book at our kids fair is $3.99 plus tax but my DD always chooses the more expensive book OR she buys a few $3.99 books. She never comes home with any change

How much $ to send in for the school book fair?
I usually work at the book fair, and most kids send in around $10 or less. Average price I would say through Scholastic is 3.99 to 4.99, but the hardcovers are super expensive.

$10 will give them a couple of books. I always give around that amount.

Re: How much $ to send in for the school book fair?
Lately nothing! I try to work it so I know what they are getting or take them to the family night. Otherwise, without fail, no matter how many times I tell them the money is for books, they come home with posters, pointers, back stratchers and erasers.
When I do work it however, I was shocked that some kids came with $30-$40. I think $10 is more than enough.

We don't let them buy a toy unless they bought a book. I would be annoyed by that as well!
Oh, and Scholastic charges tax at the book fairs, don't forget to add that in! A lot of parents don't realize that.

How much $ to send in for the school book fair?
We make sure the kids buy a book first before any toys. I'd say the average per kids is about $15. Some of the books for the older grades are more expensive and there are a lot of chapter book bundles for the older kids. Tax depends on how your PTA runs it. We do not charge tax to the kids on anything.

So do you eat the tax then out of your profits? I was questioning why we have to pay tax, but we don't pay it on the book orders that come home. No one could really figure out why it's different at the book fair.

Re: How much $ to send in for the school book fair?
I actually ended up volunteering to help out and being a cashier at the book fair so when DS' class came through, I told him to pick out something. He got 1 book that was $3.99 and the school was doing a 20% off thing. Most kids did have around $10-15.

I don't remember exactly how it worked but Scholastic has a bunch of different options for how you get profits. We chose not to include tax so I guess it ate into some of the profits.

For $10.00 your child should be able to get a few paperbacks. There are certain books that DS likes to get in hardcover so if they are available at book fair Ill give him more $.

Re: How much $ to send in for the school book fair?
For $10, my 5 year old bought 2 books (not hardcover) and came home with $0.25 change. I was happy with that and so was she.

Re: How much $ to send in for the school book fair?
Just remember that in my school if it is scholastic tax is charged... There are plenty of books for 4.99 and 5.99... I would give 12 to be on safe side.

Re: How much $ to send in for the school book fair?
I think between 10 and 15 is good. I teach kindergarten. Some of the kids come in with 20....they can't keep track of their change and it gets to be too much. Many book are 3.99 so 15 is more than enough.

I usually send in $20. If I can I volunteer to help at the Book Fair during the time their class will be there so I can help him pick out something appropriate.
