How often do you change your passwords?
I'm guilty of hardly ever doing this. My wife and I were just talking about it and I thought it would be a good idea to start changing some of the more sensitive passwords monthly.
What do you do?

It's recommended to change your passwords monthly...that being said...I rarely change mine and probably should change them more frequently.

Re: How often do you change your passwords?
There have been several studies showing that the more "secure" and frequently changed the password, the less secure it can become. When it changes too often, many people wind up writing it down somewhere, and once it's written down, it can be read by someone else.
One of the better ways of making passwords is to use the first letter of each word of a sentence or song lyric, etc. Something that you can easily remember, but is very difficult to figure out.

Re: How often do you change your passwords?
Ugh passwords. I have to remember my own, and everyone's in my office too. I have a master list that is under lock and key in the computer just in case.
Another tactic I use is to take fractions of two words and break them up with numbers.
Anniversary Day 02051999 could be:

Ok that's extremely long but you get the idea.

I do not do it enough. But I think I am going to make a point of changing them this weekend.

Every time someone at work complains about how many passwords they have to keep track of, I remind them that I have a minimum of 2x as many. I have a regular account like them, plus an admin account. I also have passwords to more systems than they do.
All with different username rules and password rules.
