My best friend and I frequently do bbqs at each other's houses. But it's super casual, typically us in sweatpants and kids sometimes in pjs. I haven't had a big bbq or dinner party in a while but I like having them!

Re: How often do you have people over for dinner?

Once a month on average.

I used to hate hosting and would rarely do it because it would give me so much stress worrying if everything was perfect, being self conscious about how small my house was, etc etc.

DH finally helped me see that no one cares about any of that stuff. The point is just to be together and make memories. So now we are quicker to invite people over.

I feel like we have people over all the time but it's our kids friends (our oldest is 7, our middle guy is 3- the friends are 2 other 7 year olds and their siblings, 5 and 3) and their parents; We're all friends and everything is pretty low key- hamburgers hot dogs steaks salads veggies in the summer or we order takeout. Or it's our family. Kids always play way past their bedtimes and the adults all hang out and bs

And we host Christmas and midnight dinner on Easter. For the holidays we get help from our parents and also cater some of the food.

Similarly we primarily socialize with families with kids of similar ages. I feel we host less often as compared to our friends, but on average I would say 1x a month we will get together for dinner.
We recently hosted a big bbq with several families. Otherwise fairly low key.

Maybe once a year... I have a small place and can't stand entertaining. This may or may not sound crazy but I feel like my home is my quiet place... my place to unwind... and having people over just makes it crazy. For me at least.

This is how I feel. My home is where I go to get away from people. I feel like i'm being invaded when people are over. You can tell I am an introvert.

I'm glad I'm not the only one!
Sometimes when people are over, and it's just all talking and chaos, I just pretend to be going to the bathroom and go into my bedroom for a few quick minutes of peace and quiet and to clear my head.

I really thought there was something wrong with me!

LOL I'm pretty sure there is something wrong with me. We went to a bbq at our neighbors house last month. I ran home to use the bathroom and I just sat there for a few minutes trying to think of reasons not to go back. Eventually I went back and my DH was like where the hell were you? lol

Re: How often do you have people over for dinner?

The reason I posted this is that we rarely host at our home. We entertain family from out of town and somehow that is easier but having to prep, shop for and host people in my own home makes me want to break out in hives. I work full time so by the time the weekend rolls around this is the last thing that I want to do. The problem is that we are constantly being asked to peoples homes for parties and we go and bring dessert, drinks, etc with us but I always feel guilty that we do not reciprocate.

On the flip side we constantly have play dates at our home so maybe I prefer kids to adults? :)

Never
Once a year tops .
I got tired of the planning, cleaning, shopping, cooking, buying booze, serving and cleaning up.
Too stressful after working all week.
I only want to spend my only 2 days a week off with my dh, dd and my family like parents /sister/ nephews .
And as I have gotten older I have gotten more and more anti social. I know it's awful but when people are over I just want them to leave so I don't have to be "on" anymore and can go put my sweats on, put my hair up and go relax on the couch

This is me

Re: How often do you have people over for dinner?

I'd say pretty often. Maybe a few times a month. More in the summer bc we have the pool and have people over a lot. Sometimes we provide everything and sometimes we just order in or we do potluck.
We have a few group of friends we take turns hosting. Plus, we have a friendly neighborhood so lots of impromptu get togethers some nights while the kids play we hang out at a house, have some drinks and then eventually call for pizza. DH is very social and likes to have an open house policy. I love it but could do without the cleaning after. lol.
With the kids older it's gotten so much easier.

Re: How often do you have people over for dinner?

i love hosting. i love feeding people.

i don't do it too often because of SO's mother. she's sick and elderly. if the house if full of people and SO and i can't keep an eye on her non-stop, she "misbehaves." when it's just us, we don't have to watch her as much because we can easily hear what she's up to.

i like the prepping and the planning, and sometimes i even enjoy the stress of it all. sadly, i just don't have the money for it.

ps. i do have a time limit on "being on." once that moment hits, i turn into my father and i start telling people it's time to go home.

my dad was known for going into his room, putting on his pajamas, coming back out, and telling everyone that it was time for them to go home. i just don't do the pajama part Chat Icon (granted, it's either family or very close friends i do this to).

as far as feeling guilty. not at all. everyone has a different level of desire to entertain. i have a cousin who will not invite ANYONE to her house. ever.

I feel like its every freaking weekend in the summer. In the fall and spring, I would say 2-3 times a month and in the winter a little less.

same. I don't worry about the mess or whether the food I make is good enough or any of that. Life's too short. I just want people over so we can spend time together & have fun. So now I have friends over as much as possible.

How often do you have people over for dinner?

Sigh...hardly ever. Apparently my social circle sucks and my family mostly lives far away. It's definitely not as often as I would like and it gets lonely not having friends and family over.

Family once a month and friends once a month, except in Jan. And Feb. because I don't love to entertain then.

Re: How often do you have people over for dinner?

We will host something with 1 or 2 other families fairly often. We will host something for 5-7 families maybe 2-3x per year. We like hosting but it gets expensive for the larger groups.

I would say about 4-5 times a year not including family. we do meet friends out for dinner quite often though.
