As soon as I turned 16 i got my learners permit. Then I passed the road test and got my junior license before I turned 17.
me too! I couldn't wait to drive
and neither could my parents- they were sick of driving me around!

When I was 15 I had a learners permit and could drive with anyone over the age of 18 (which I did)
Then I got my license the day I turned 16
Same here.

To all those who started driving late in life or who don't drive at all....why? Not trying to be snarky. How do you get anywhere? I can't imagine not driving...my life would be so different.
I'm not offended!
I've lived in Brooklyn my whole life. When I was a kid, my grandfather, father or aunt drove the kids around. We'd take summer road trips once in a while. By the time I got to HS, I was taking the train everywhere and wasn't interested in a car.
I'm 27 now, and I just never bothered learning. Every necessity is accessible by public transportation.
I don't necessarily want to own a car. I don't need one. Parking in my neighborhood is a PITA, and I would rather save the $ I would otherwise spend on a car payment, insurance, gas and maintanence.
But believe me, I really regret not learning. Not being able to drive doesn't limit me in NYC, but if DH and I ever wanted to move, not driving would leave me housebound. It's a good skill to have. Now, for whatever reason, I am terrified of driving. I should have learned when I was too young to be afraid.

Well, I lived in NYC for many years, Manhattan first and then Brooklyn. A car always seemed like a PITA to have there IMO, so I didn't have one. Plus when I was younger I really didn't earn enough to afford a car and insurance without going in debt.
So that's my reason. A couple years after moving to LI I relearned, and could have done it sooner, but I was so old at that point it was a little scary.

I was 16 - grew up outside of Detroit, the motor city... I think it was a requirement that you got your drivers license as soon as you could. LOL We had drivers ed as part of our school curriculum. You signed up for a summer session when you turned 15 and you could get your drivers license with no restrictions at 16.
