How supportive is your DH??

Ok. maybe supportive is not the right word-- but, more so, encouraging.

I am down like 10 pounds.. I only have like 2 or 3 to go til I get to my goal, 5 if I wanted to be hardcore.

Not ONCE has my DH said to me-- wow, all of your hard work is paying off... or I am starting to see a difference, etc. He has only commented to me if I prompt him, asking if I look thinner.

Now, while he is affectionate, etc., he is never one to come out and just give me tons of compliments.. sometimes, but rarely. However, ever time I would complain about feeling fat and ugly, he would just get annoyed and say stop complaining and do something about it. Now that I have-- I would SOME reaction from him. I mean, it's freakin obvious-- I am up at 6 30 every morning to do cardio, I get home from work at about 8 cause I do weights after work... and in the mornings on the weekends-- he always has an ice coffee waiting for him cause I have been up at at the gym for 2 hours already. I mean, get a freakin clue!!

I am getting to the point where I think the scale is lying cause when I look in the mirror, I don't see much of a difference from when I first started to see some changes... It would be nice to have someone tell me I look good. Chat Icon

Mine is oblivious - I mean, I appreciate the fact that he doesn't say anything when I'm looking less than fabulous, he knows I'm hard enough on myself - But really, when I'm busting my arse and it's paying off, you could MAYBE say somethng ?? Nah -

However, if it's someone else, he's the first to comment "Oh so and so has lost so much weight, good for her, she looks amazing" -

Re: How supportive is your DH??

First I have to give you major kudos for losing 10 lbs!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I know from your posts how challenging this has been for you, and for you to make that kind of progress is SO awesome!!! It must be hard to lose those last few lbs, but you've persevered and worked really hard for it so you shouldn't let ANYTHING bring you down!! Chat Icon

To answer your question, my DH was very UNsupportive when I started up weight watchers again. Not because I don't have a lot of weight to lose but because he's seen me try and fail so many times. He thought that this was just going to be another "I'll start again on Monday" kind of deals. I never let it get to me though although in a sense he was right. You have to remember exactly WHY you're working so hard. It's not for anyone else!! It's for you!! That's why as much as DHs opinion matters to me, I could care less what he thought about my weight loss strategy. The only thing I asked of him was not bring any of my trigger foods in the house and he hasn't. He feels like he's making a sacrifice because he can't have chips or cookies in the house but I feel like it's for his own good anyway Chat Icon Chat Icon

Four months later and 26 lbs lighter DH has totally changed his tune. He does tell me he notices a difference, but it's taken him a long time to see one. I think that it's harder for your DH to see it because he sees you everyday and it's hard for him to see the overall change, although I do see why you would want him to appreciate how hard you've been working.

Just remember how good you are starting to feel and the reason why you are doing it in the first place. It's not to impress your DH. He already loves you unconditionally! It's to feel good about yourself and be a healthier person. To me, that means more than any compliment anyone could ever give me.

Re: How supportive is your DH??

totally-- I am doing it for me so I feel good about myself... But, I want DH to even say-- that it's great that I have been working so hard. It's really hard for me with the hours I work, commuting and also bringing food to work with me. It's a major commitment and is not easy!

Anyway-- I ALMOST lost 10 lbs. Yesterday the scale said it was 10-- today, I am back up a half pound... This is why I don't like broadcasting my weight-- as soon as I say something, the scale goes up. But, I am been able to lose like a pound a week for the last few weeks-- so, hopefully by like the Jewish holidays when I see a lot of family.. I will be at my goal.

Re: How supportive is your DH??

My DH will say-Oh you're looking thinner but then he cooks crazy meals(he does most fo our cooking) He likes french food so everythings got heavy cream, bacon, duck fat whatever. I said to him-you should eat like this once a month not every other night. I have asked him many times to try and lighten up his cooking but its like a federal offense to use fat free anything in French cooking apparently. I even bought him Self magazine, a special issue with lkow fat recipes but......I am going to have to start eating salads for dinner!

Re: How supportive is your DH??

I'm lucky. My DH is super supportive. Apparently I look "HOT" in everything and anything. I'm not sure if he means it or if he's just trying to get brownie points, but hey, it works Chat Icon

He is even trying to get in better shape himself. After work I go to the gym and then cook dinner. After dinner, the two of us go for a walk together.

Same here. He's not one to make compliments on his own, but if he sees I lost a quite a bit, he will definately acknowledge it.

Sometimes it's annoying, though. Because I know I have to loose weight and when I say so, he'll tell me I"m perfect the way I am. That doesn't really help either. I guess they can't win no matter what they say Chat Icon

My DH is the opposite, he's really into looks, so if I lose weight or look good for whatever reason, he always compliments me. That's just how he is, extremly complimentary and always saying I love you, etc. Unfortunately, this seems to be just the way your husband is. Maybe, he's thinking it, but doesn't verbalize.

he is supportive and encouraging.
Just when I start to notice changes, he quickly does too.
With all the changes going on in my body now, he is still complimentive of my positives.
