How to find a kitchen designer?

We're looking to redo our kitchen in the future (not sure just how far into the future we're talking yet) and will definitely need a designer. It's a fairly large kitchen and we want to change the layout, possibly take down a wall, so it's a big job. We really don't know how we want the layout changed but we're pretty sure the current design isn't the best.

I don't know how to go about finding a good designer. I'm sure it makes a difference who you use and we want to make sure we will love the outcome. I also have no idea what you should expect to pay for this type of thing. I know this will be a big job but we don't have an endless budget. Any input from people who have recently done this type of thing would be great!

Not sure about kitchen designers bc we're still in a really early stage but I found this website to be pretty helpful with very thoughtful people.
