How to formula to feed your week old baby?
Hello,
How much did you/ do you feed your one week old baby?
We are bottle and breast feeding, although it seems like it is more bottle than breast right now.
When we were in the hospital we were giving her 2oz. That was not enough by the time we came home and we moved DD up to 3. Now, only one week later, it seems she is ready to move up again...
How do you know what is the right amount? Is there ever too much?

I only formula fed..but I do know my son took a LOT of formula. He was downing 4 ounces in the hospital...I thought at the time it was too much but I was told by my pediatrician that "if they overeat, they'll spit up/throw up" LOL.
It's true. I mean 2 ounces wasn't cutting it for him. We then offered another two and it was perfect.
Every baby is different! My niece had to be forced to drink an ounce per feeding..she was never interested. My son would cry for more sometimes after 4 ounces at only a week old! So I would mix up 2 more and he usually took 1 more ounce.
Don't worry about overfeeding unless the doctor tells you otherwise...it really is true that if its too much formula, it'll come up!

Every baby is different! My niece had to be forced to drink an ounce per feeding..
This was DD too. She was only taking 1/2 oz at the hospital and we had to force her to take 1 oz at a time before they would discharge us.
That being said, peds expect lots of calls from new mommies, so if you have any questions about feeding you should call. It's what they are there for

Im pretty much just doing breast right now, but when I cant seem to satisfy with breast I have supplemented with formula. I start with 2 ozs and then if she finishes all of i give her another 2ozs and go from there. I know shes full when she leaves some formula in bottle.

The first week I fed her what they were feeding her in the hospital, about 2 oz. Now she is 5 weeks and up to 5 oz. She doesn't always take 5 though.
I decided to call my ped before I went up to 5 because it just seemed to be such a big increase to me in just a few weeks. Then again I'm a new mom so I think I will always second guess myself. My DD is a great eater and she will clamp her mouth shut when she's done! I try to follow her lead.

I had to formula feed only due to health issues for the first week, and she took anywhere between 1.5oz to 2oz. Now I am mainly BFing only supplementing her 2:30 am feeding with formua and she is taking about 4oz (but she is now 4 weeks old)
