How to get rid of the bottle before nap/bed time?

So I finally found a straw cup that the twins like and can use properly. So during the day they use that for their juice and after-breakfast milk. However they still use a bottle to lay in bed and fall asleep with for naptime and bedtime. I would like to be able to kick this habit but I have a feeling it's not going to going over so well. They have their routine. We tell them they're going night-night, pick them up and ask for a kiss, then lay them down in the crib. Before you can even put a blanket over them they're reaching for their bottle.

Im assuming I would just give them their milk in their cups while they're still up and then when they're done put them in their cribs with nothing. Anyone have any tips on how to make this a smooth transition? Is it going to be as horrible as Im thinking?

Re: How to get rid of the bottle before nap/bed time?

At 18 months DD was still getting a morning bottle. She looked for it, asked for it, NEEDED it (as did I for my own sanity!). Christmas night we slept at my BIL's house. She woke up in a different environment and didn't even think about her ba-ba. After that we just sorta went cold turkey. Yeah some mornings she still asks for it but I just say "Babas are for babies, you're a big girl now." She won't drink milk out of a sippy though so that's our only issue now.

I don't think it will be easy, but I would try giving them their milk sippies before bed then continue with their regular bedtime routine. The first few nights may be rough, but I think it will work out.

Or you can just spend a night at my BIL's house and throw them off! Chat Icon
