How to know about formula?
So, DD is on Enfamil Enfcare which is the preemie formula they were giving her in the NICU. She's been spitting up a little...which I think is because she doesn't poop often...and she's trying to push, but it comes out the wrong end. Also...when she's done eating (we are giving her 2 oz. every 3 hours), I feel like she may want a little more, but I don't want to over feed her and then have more spit up.
DH thinks she may be lactose intolerant and that's why she's spitting up and wants to change the formula to pro-soybee. I told him that we should take her to the ped this week and see what they say....but he thinks he knows best and it's a waste to go to the ped. I'm not sure when he became a doctor
Any suggesstions?

Re: How to know about formula?
Definitely do NOT switch her without consulting the ped. In all my research from Ava's milk allergy, I learned that it's almost impossible for babies to be lactose intolerant since the lactose in cow's milk and human milk are the same. That would mean that a baby would reject their mother's milk and that's nearly non-existent. Lactose is a sugar that babies need for development and should ONLY be eliminated if it is seriousjly effecting them. As for the formula, she may need something gentler on her tummy, but I would use soy as your last resort.

I would talk to the ped too, but we put dd on lactose free and she was so much better on it. She did not do well with the soy at all.

Re: How to know about formula?
My DD is also on a premie formula and spits up quite a bit. I wanted to try a diferent formula, but the Ped said she needs the special nurient that are in the preemie formla. She said everything else needs to be ruled out before changing. She instructed us to feed her sitting up, and have her sit in her bouncy seat for at least 2 mines after feeding. When she was still throwing up, the Ped ordered 1/2 tsp of Maalox before feedings, up to 4 a day.
