How/what to pack - outgrown clothes

I was hoping to get an idea of what you have all done/been doing when it comes time to pack up clothes.

I have 2 rubbermaid bins and one drawer full of out grown clothes (soem with the tags still on Chat Icon ) and I'm not sure how to do this.

Did you keep everything?

If yes, how did you store it?

If no, how did you sort through it and how did you base your decision on what to keep? What did you do with the things you didn't keep?

Thanks!!!

I didn't keep everything - and as time goes on I am keeping less and less - being that I'm a shopaholic I figure I will want to buy the next kid a ton of clothes too.

What I keep -basically, the things that I really love. I also keep anything Ralph - or anything from the more expensive cutesy kid stores. I have kept all of his jeans bc honestly - if he wore them once - that's alot.

I have kept a ton of pjs - because IMO - they can never have enough.

Anything that has even the smallest of formula stains - or A&D on the butt - goes right in a bag to my SIL who just had twins.

HTH!

Re: How/what to pack - outgrown clothes

Well my first question would be - do you plan to have more?

Me - I doubt it - so I am saving some stuff for friends if they want it. Things with tags still on I am going to try to sell on ebay or craiglist and if they don't go, I will take them to Once Upon a Child.

Right now everything is in 2 drawers in Alex's closet...

Hi!

I'm just keeping stuff that is in REALLY good shape (still looks brand new). I'm throwing away onesies and anything with a stain or any sign of wear. I'm keeping them in the attic in rubbermaid bins sorted by size.

This is why I knew posting it here would help me out. Chat Icon Thank you everyone.

We do plan (pray) to have more children but, like Diana, I know I will buy more with the next baby regardless if it's another boy or a girl.

This really helps because I was packing away socks and plain onesies but I think I will ditch those. They are worn...not stained but I know I will want new ones for the next baby.

Okay...now I feel like I am starting to get a game plan. Chat Icon

I kept just about everything from the "baby" stage--good thing too, since I had another girl (didn't really matter though--got a TON of clothes when #2 was born). The only things I threw out were the onesies really.

Once they become more mobile/start walking, their clothes really become trashed (especially from running around outside); also when they start feeding themselves! Chat Icon As a result, I've thrown out a lot more as DD's gotten older.

I store the clothes in Rubbermaid bins. For the baby stuff, I label it and sort it by size and gender--girls' clothing or neutral clothing.

Bella already started to outgrow clothes and I'm keeping everything that is not stained (which is pretty much everything since I swear by Dreft stain remover) with the exception of socks LOL.

Re: How/what to pack - outgrown clothes

I did this yesterday. I took everything out of his room that he has outgrown and is not stained and I put it in a JUMBO space saver bag. It fits mostly all of his 0 - 9 month clothes.

The stuff with tags on it (yes..a lot of it)...i will give as gifts for anyone that has boys

That's what we have.

Boy premie to 0-3, Boy 3-6, Boy 6-12 etc.
labeled with season.

Same for girl clothes.

I have bins for each size to 4T (we got a lot of hand-me-downs)

I already gave away most of my girl clothesChat Icon

If they were raggedy, I threw them out. Otherwise they are all in clear plastic bins, in sixze order.

The ones with the tags on I placed in a separate bin.

Re: How/what to pack - outgrown clothes

DD has so many clothes so all of them were in really good shape. They are in rubber maid bins according to size. Anything that was a hand me down from my brothers twin girls I will either pass on to my other brother who is having another baby any minute now (assuming it is a girl) or give away to someone else with a girl

instead of ditching them, you may want to ask your son's daycare if they need any extra clothes. all the centers i worked at, we would take the extras for the classrooms because there are always kids that don't have extra changes in their cubbies and there are some families that can use any extras.

i'm not sure about having anymore babies myself, but i am storing in space bags for a friend that is planning on it soon.

This is what my family has always done. Just last week we bagged up all the preemie and 0-3 clothing DD outgrew or never used so far. Anything nice with tags still on that was not "season appropriate" for her to wear I just gave to my cousin who gave birth to her second DD

Me too. I must have at least 10 totes. Some that she's outgrown and others that she hasn't even gotten into yet. I buy things on sale and save, save, save.

My SIL stored hers by putting the nuetral clothes in one box by age and the other is gender specific (boy clothes) by age. I thought that this was a great idea especially since I'm having number two. Luckily I'm having another boy but if it was a girl - I would be unpacking and repacking again.

Re: How/what to pack - outgrown clothes

I just sorted a bunch of stuff for a coworker who is pg with baby number 4 and it's a girl. She thought her family was finished and got rid of everything and now she needs to start over again so I am passing on a lot.

I passed along the cheaper stuff and saved all of the good brands that I like. I also saved all of my neutral stuff (DD's gender was a surprise for us) as I feel it is good for next time.

Stored by size and gender in bins in the attic.

I also pick up clothes as the end of the season for next year and store those in bins by size and gender.

Same here. Her outgrown clothes go in bins organized by size in the basement, and I also find some larger size stuff on sale and organize them in bins too, along with stuff a girlfriend gave me from her daughter.

We have kept pretty much everything because we plan on having more children. The clothes have been well taken care of so I haven't had to purge anything but one or two onesies.

They are sorted by size for the most part. Some pieces may have been forgotten and packed in the next tote. I used space bags and rubbermaid totes to store them in.
