How painful is it really? Should I put it off? i just can't bear to go through another cycle imagining that it might not happen becuase my tubes are blocked! I'm confused...can anyone tell me if it is worth it?

Re: HSG Pain?
In my opinion it was worth it. It can help determine if there is an issue if you have a blocked tube. I didn't have any crazy cramping but I was told it was like AF cramps. It really wasn't that bad and it's over fairly quickly. Good Luck!

Re: HSG Pain?
i had no pain, cramping or discomfort during or after the HSG. It was not bad at all for me.
I think most people have mild discomfort. I wouldn't put it off....it is not as bad as everyone thinks it is going to be.

I agree...do you have a child now. They said if you have one its less painful. I would say it was like a bad menstral cramp...i was so worried and it was no big deal...take tylenol before or whatever they rec.

Re: HSG Pain?
it is worth it. It will show if you have a problem and its heard that you have a better chance to get preg after the test.
Dont worry about that pain, it varies. Take an advil. It depends person to person. good luck

Re: HSG Pain?
My tubes were not blocked, but I thought the HSG was one of the worst tests I ever had to take. I think I must be super sensitive because the nurse kept trying to calm me down and I was just a mess... she suggested lots of drugs when I do have a baby!
From what I know from other experiences though I was definitely in the minority - most people feel only mild discomfort.
However, it was definitely worthwhile to know that that was not a problem.
Good luck!!

Re: HSG Pain?
I wasn't uncomfortable or painful at all, (but I did learn I needed the long speculum (sp?) (and now all of my visits are a lot more comfortable.)
Better to do it just in case there is a problem. Also, they say you can be more fertile afterwards.

Re: HSG Pain?
I would definitely go for it. When I had mine done they saw that my tubes were all clear, but my they also found I had a bicournate uterus (septum down the middle of my uterus).
The test was over fairly quick, it was just uncomfortable not really painful.
Good Luck to you!

Re: HSG Pain?
For me it was extremely painful...but it was worth it to get the test done. I wanted to make sure that my tubes weren't blocked...so I would do it again if I had to.

Re: HSG Pain?
Do not put it off! If I had never had an HSG, I still wouldn't be preggo....they found polyps in both of my tubes. It was a pretty easy fix and it worked!
It was uncomfortable for me, but some people do have some pain. The good news is that it is over pretty quickly. I had some cramping after, but it wasn't even as bad as with my period.
Good luck!

Re: HSG Pain?
I say go for it. Many women get pregnant right after this test. I was one of them, though mine ended w/ m/c, not 6 IUI's nor 4 IVF's got me pregnant. Still don't know "how" it happened...well OK, I do know how...LOL... Seriously, something in the dye they use or the fact that it opened up my tubes etc... And its over fast. More uncomfortable than anything and a little pressure, but then its over. Just breathe deep and you'll be able to deal with it. Good luck.

Re: HSG Pain?
I think the pain varies from person to person.
For me, it hurt a lot.... but all after the procedure (think extreme awful cramping).
It lasted maybe 1-2 hours and then, I was fine.
