As mush as that wounds like a great idea, DH is in montana far away from this damn thing and wont be home for an other week! As is it our basment apartment flooded 2 weeks ago, so my anxiety is through the roof!

Kelly I seriously just laughed til I cried!! I loved the update!  Now, being you are the knower of all things weather related, can you tell me if I go into labor, should I go to Good Sam where I am supposed to deliver, or up to Stony Brook which is higher ground. Ahh forget it, I'll just use this time to try a home birth and name my baby Irene Storm.

Yes. This is not good at all.
Anything going West and not just clipping the coast = SUPER NOT GOOD! And a lot more damage in residential areas. With a hurricane, there is an enormous amount of water before the storm and during the storm.
From my experience with hurricanes in NC, the most damaging ones where when it rained days before and then the hurricane hits. Trees .... BIG trees! can't even hold. The ground is pure mud and the roots have no hold when the wind blows hard for HOURS and HOURS! Because like Kelly said, it's HOURS of this non stop. Oh yeah, you do get a little break for a little bit. It's dead silence. It's creepy! Then you get the 2nd part of it, and it's back at it for more rain and wind. It's major property damage! Roof, houses, cars, trees everywhere. Grounds COVERED in leaves and branches you can't even see the pavement.
The aftermath cleaning is a nightmare.
