husband rant..hopefully someone can relate
I'm a sahm and my husband works like a dog...I'm the first to tell anyone that. I do absolutely everything around the house...Cook, clean, take care of our child, fix things...everything. And I don't complain other than saying I'm tired (which I do say often). Tonight I go out with my girlfriends, which I haven't done in a LONG time (he goes out infrequently but often enough). I come home and nothing has been cleaned up from his mother watching the baby (before he got home)...dirty bottles in the sink, dirty dishes, leftovers still on the counter. So I make a big deal about the fact that he could've done it so on my one night out I can come home to a clean house. Instead of apologizing I get the "I was gonna do it".
Am I overreacting? Because I'm livid.

Re: husband rant..hopefully someone can relate
I came home to the same thing tonight from work. We don't have any kids so it was only him home all day long. Not one thing cleaned up since breakfast and he is in a terrible mood.
We're both accountants and its tax season so he gets a pass. I know how you feel, I'm upset too.

Re: husband rant..hopefully someone can relate
This is every time I leave DH with the kids. It annoys the ever loving crap out of me. But I just deal with it. The break is worth a little extra work. Would it be awesome of he did the dishes and picked up after the kids? Hells yeah. But at least I get time to myself whenever I need it.

His mother didn't clean up what had been dirtied when she was there? She should have.

I do not expect my ILs to clean when they babysit. They do me a favor.
I would expect my DH to though.

Re: husband rant..hopefully someone can relate
My DH does the same thing. When he watches the kids (rarely) that's ALL he does, plus watch tv. When I watch the kids, I'm doing laundry, vacuuming, I dust, organize, clean the bathroom, pick up after the kids etc.... It drives me crazy.

I kind of think we need to pick our battles. And while I get the MIL was watching the baby, in my house that would also include cleaning up after herself too. Not DH.

Did you leave the mess ?
Some people are just not cleaners. I can't stand dishes in the sink while DH has no problem leaving them there until the end of the day and will wash everything at once. MIL might have had her hands full with the baby, but at least the food should have been put away.

Re: husband rant..hopefully someone can relate
It really was my MIL that watched him...husband saw him for like 10 min and put him to bed. Then was home for 2 hours with the mess everywhere before I got home and was like wtf? I understand he wants to relax but maybe one time go out of your way to do something so I don't have to. Next time when I wanna go out I won't make a nice big meal and I'll make you order.
Don't get me started on mil. One time the entire family decided to babysit and the sink was literally piled high with dirty dishes, bottles etc. Ugh!

I agree with you 100% Dh and I both work but I'm always the one cleaning up and if I do go out I come home to a mess. I learned to text him when I'm leaving wherever I am giving him an eta (be home in 20) and he knows if the apt is a mess he's got 20 mins to get it cleaned up

Re: husband rant..hopefully someone can relate
Nope your not overreacting. Its the same thing in my house, but I am a FTWM. I do everything is the house. My DH one set job is the dishes. He has to load and unload the dishwasher. He hates to do it because he hates leftover food on plates and in the sink (BTW he's a plumber!) He never remembers to do it so I tell him he's got to unload it. He tell me I'm always b*tching at him about it. The house is always a mess bc of him. I am always complaining. I think its just men! Hang in there!

Re: husband rant..hopefully someone can relate
I am pretty sure every single wife on here can relate! lol
I used to get soo mad at him for not doing anything. He usually still gets a tirade once a month or so. but at this point, i expect him not to do anything. if i go out, i know i'm coming back to not only what I left, but much much more! c'est la vie!

Even if inlaws are helping out for free - if they make a mess, they should clean it up. It's rude not too, IMO. I don't mean they should do laundry and vacuum but if they make a particular mess, it should be cleaned.

This is my DH. I am a neat freak and need everything organized and in it's place. It is rare that I will leave dishes in the sink overnight, but it doesn't bother him one bit.

My response to "I was gonna do it" would have been "okay well I'm going to bed while you do it".

You are not overreacting. I have been in the same situation. I have to spell everything out for DH that I want/need him to do. Regardless I would have been pissed coming home to all that work.
As for your IL's, start leaving them paper plates and plastic cups and tell them not to touch your dishes!

I agree. If I am at their house, I will always clean up my mess. Its common courtesy.
As for your DH, that would really piss me off and it happens at my house too!
I am FTWM with a split schedule (2 days in NYC, 3 days on LI). The nights I come home from the city there are always dishes and pans in the sink from whatever he cooked for DD. It pisses me off! You know I am not getting home till almost 7 and the last thing I want to do is clean up a mess you made.

Ehhh I think if he was working all day I wouldn't be mad with him, especially if I was out with friends. I'd give him a break on that...I know when I get home from work last thing I want to do is clean...I usually plop down for a little TV too.
I probably would be a little pissed at MIL that she didn't at least clean some of the stuff she used...but I'm used to my mom who washes my dishes every time she's over lol.

This! DH is great if I'm *with* him and we have a cleaning day. We both pitch in and get a lot done. If I need him to do something on his own, I have to remind him about 10 times. It's VERY rare that he just does it. & we have no kids.. I feel your pain! MEN!

Re: husband rant..hopefully someone can relate
I have the opposite issue. My husband locks the kids in the playroom so he can clean up and yells at them when they try to interact with him.
I'd rather him spend quality time with his girls than clean up. He'd rather I clean up than play with them.
