Re: Hyundai Tuscon
sorry - I'm no help. My mom is on her 2nd Santa Fe. Loves it, never had a problem.
After owning 2 Hyundai's myself, I don't this we will ever purchase another one. I don't really think their pricing is all that competitive anymore. And I'd rather get a car that will hold value better.

Re: Hyundai Tuscon
I went back and forth between the tuscon and the santa fe. I went with the santa fe. It's a little bigger and there was not much price difference. I test drove both and liked the feel of the santa fe better. I had an elantra befor this and wanted something with 4 wheel drive and the santa fe does great in the snow and ice.

Kevin, I disagree with your statement about Hyundai's being poorly made. I have already owned A 06 Kia Sportage which is owned and made with Hyundai's Metal and I have to say that this truck was very well built with Quality parts. Scott

Re: Hyundai Tuscon
Scott, it got very high marks for saftey and impact.
Tucson
Kevin, that really blows about Cindy's car but thankfully she is ok. These impact ratings are for safety I guess and not collision repairs.

Hyundai always had a bad reputation of being cheap, poorly made cars. But I think they have changed in the past couple of years. They are getting much better ratings, and I have heard really good things about them We are going to look at the tuscon and santa fe this summer when we'll be shopping for a new car.

Re: Hyundai Tuscon
Yes it is true they had a bad rap in the past, but there care and trucks are built much better now. They are being compared to Japanese built cars and SUV's in the same class. You can get a lot more for your money by buying a Kia or a Hyundai over a toyota or a Honda. The resale value may not be the same but the build quality and Warranty can not be beat. 10 year and 100k miles....

My husband was rear ended in his Elantra on the parkway by an SUV- the SUV had tons of damage- his car had nothing... So I have to disagree that they are poorly made as well. I think they still have a "bad rap" just like Toyotas did when they first came here. But honestly- they are great cars. He has over 150K miles on it- and never a problem...

Re: Hyundai Tuscon
I also went back and forth between the Tucson and the Santa Fe. We ended buying a 2007 Santa Fe Limited. We are expecting our first baby and travel a lot with our dog - we were concerned that we would outgrow the Tucson too quickly
We test drove like 12 different cars. The only car we came close to liking as much as the Santa Fe was the new CR-V.
Edited to add that the Santa Fe was rated #2 on consumer reports after the Rav 4 V6 and over the regular Rav 4, CR-V, and Nissan Rogue

Re: Hyundai Tuscon
Thats not as bad as what happened to my 94 civic....I got rear ended by a taurus which had no damage. The rear of my car twisted. The taurus had no damage
Also my 88 CRX SI was rear ended by a pontiac Fiero and the rear of my car twisted and the bumper, and taillights were damaged.
Any car that is hit in the rear can be badly damaged depending on how they are hit and speed, etc.

Re: Hyundai Tuscon
My friend has a Tuscon and has had to have the transmission replaced after only 2 years which he is not happy about, but my cousin has a Kia Sportage that she loves and has had no problems with (after multiple trips back and forth from Indiana to NY) and I just got a Kia Spectra a few months ago and love it so far. I guess any car can have problems. One thing is for sure, you can't beat the warranty.

I drive a Tuscon, I love it. It's only a few months ago. DH has a 2 year old Santa Fe.
I will always buy Hyundai. It's a reliable car with very competitive pricing!

I disagree.
Someone turned in front of my DH. He had a 99 Honda Civic SI. This car was only 18 months!
Everyone talks about how great hondas are. Nobody can believe that he walked away from this. This car kept him alive....But the damage is horrible!

It also depends on how and where the car was hit. Cars have crumple zones which gives the car a lot of damage, but protects the people inside. The car is absorbing the impact instead of the passengers.

definitely. New cars are made with crumble zones and are meant to act as an accordion.

We have been toying with leasing the Tuscon too. I like small cars so I liked this little SUV.
